Aerodrome and Velodrome merge to launch Aero across seven networks
Two DEXs become one platform
Aerodrome and Velodrome have merged to launch Aero, an onchain spot exchange (a platform for trading digital assets directly on a blockchain) across seven networks. The move brings the two decentralized exchanges (DEXs, or platforms that let people trade without a central company) under one unified platform.
The new exchange is launching on Ethereum mainnet, Base, Robinhood Chain, Ink, OP Mainnet, Arc, and Arbitrum.
Scale behind the merge
- Aerodrome accounted for 58% of DEX trading volume on Base in the third quarter.
- Velodrome accounted for 60% of DEX trading volume on OP Mainnet in the third quarter.
- Aerodrome also led all DEXs in bitcoin-dollar trading volume during the quarter.
- According to the project, the seven networks together handle about $120 billion a month in DEX trading.
Token swap details
As part of the merger, the existing AERO and VELO tokens will migrate to a new AERO token. Also, veAERO and veVELO will convert to sAERO.
New features added
- Predictive Allocation: A system that lets participants stake AERO and direct liquidity rewards budget toward markets they expect to generate revenue.
- Metaswaps: Designed to connect trading across networks using existing onchain liquidity.
- Slipstream V3: Introduces dynamic fees that rise when markets move fast, along with MEV capture on supported Layer 2 networks.
What Dromos Labs says
Aero is developed by Dromos Labs. Alex Cutler, founder and CEO of Dromos Labs, said the model worked for Aerodrome and Velodrome users and that Aero extends it to larger onchain markets, with 100% of revenue going back to people who stake AERO.
