Arbitrum's ARB Token Hits Four-Week Low While Usage Rises

ARB falls to lowest price in 28 days

Arbitrum's native token, ARB, reached a four-week low on October 24. According to CoinGecko data, the token hit $0.1639 at 12:30 p.m. ET. This price is the lowest point observed in the preceding 28 days.

The decline represents a loss of nearly 29% compared to the token's price level on September 26. While the broader crypto market experienced selling pressure that day, ARB's drop was significantly larger than that seen in the two leading digital assets.

Performance lags Bitcoin and Ethereum over four weeks

  • Over a 28-day period ending on October 24, ARB lost 28.1%.

  • In the same timeframe, Bitcoin fell 5.2% and Ethereum dropped 14.4%.

  • Other scaling tokens, like Optimism's OP and Polygon's POL, also saw sharp declines of 26.5% and 26.7% respectively.

  • In the shorter seven-day window, ARB lost 9.9%, while Bitcoin fell 1.9% and Ethereum dropped 4.3%.

These comparisons measure dollar-price changes rather than total investment returns, which might include rewards earned by holding the assets. The data suggests that tokens used to scale Ethereum's network have underperformed the broader market leaders recently.

Network activity rises despite price drop

While the token price fell, data from Growthepie shows a different trend in network usage. The number of active addresses on the Arbitrum One network rose from 95,545 on September 26 to 563,669 on October 23. This metric tracks the number of unique wallet addresses interacting with the network in a single day.

However, this increase in activity has not kept pace with the token's price. Activity was also volatile, dropping to 299,959 on October 22 before recovering on October 23. There is currently no confirmed explanation for why the token price is falling while the network's active user base is growing.

Market context for major assets

The selling that impacted ARB was not isolated to smaller tokens. On the same day, Bitcoin fell 2.4% and Ethereum dropped 4.4% over a 24-hour period. Both major assets also ended the 28-day window in the red, with Bitcoin down over 5% and Ethereum down over 14%.
