Binance France to Close All User Accounts by December 31

Binance France sets account closure date

Binance France is ending its operations and will close all user accounts on December 31, 2026. The exchange, which is a digital platform where people buy and sell cryptocurrencies, began notifying its customers about the shutdown through emails in early November.

The move comes as the company winds down its activities in the country. Users who do not move their funds before the end of the year may see their assets converted or processed according to the platform's terms of use.

Important deadlines and maintenance fees

  • November 29, 2026: The deadline for users to withdraw their assets to avoid monthly maintenance fees.
  • December 31, 2026: The final date when all Binance France accounts will be officially closed.
  • Maintenance Fees: Starting November 29, accounts that still have a balance will be charged a monthly fee of 0.025% or a minimum of 10 USDC.

USDC is a stablecoin, a type of cryptocurrency designed to keep its value equal to the U.S. dollar. To avoid these costs, the exchange advises all users to complete their withdrawals before the late November deadline.

What the company says about the closure

In an email sent to users, Binance France described the move as an "orderly cessation of activities." The company warned that any accounts still holding a balance after the December deadline would be considered inactive. A spokesperson for the company explained that Binance is restricting services for affected users to follow the schedule of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) transition period.

Regulatory challenges in Europe

This decision follows reports from June indicating that Binance failed to get the necessary regulatory authorization under the European Union’s MiCA rules. The exchange was unable to secure a license from an EU member state before a July 1 deadline. As a result, the platform has been progressively limiting its services across the region to comply with new legal requirements.

Uncertainty in neighboring countries

It remains unclear if this shutdown will extend to other European countries. While media reports have suggested that users in Spain and Belgium might have received similar emails, a Binance spokesperson did not confirm those reports when asked. Currently, the confirmed closures specifically target the French branch of the exchange.
