Binance launches 24/7 foreign exchange perpetual futures
Binance moves into round-the-clock FX trading
Binance is expanding into foreign exchange. The crypto exchange announced on Sept. 18, 2026 that it will offer perpetual futures contracts on currency pairs that trade 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Perpetual futures are derivative contracts that let traders bet on the price of an asset without owning it. The first contract, called USDBRLUSDT, tracks the US dollar against the Brazilian real and is set to go live on Sept. 21.
Key details of the launch
- The USDBRLUSDT contract launches Sept. 21 and settles in USDT, a stablecoin designed to hold a steady value against the US dollar.
- Traders can use up to 100x leverage, meaning they can control a position 100 times larger than their initial collateral.
- During normal FX trading hours, prices will follow a weighted index built from third-party data providers.
- On weekends and public holidays, when traditional FX markets are closed, prices will be set by an orderbook-based system using an exponentially weighted moving average of orderbook prices, rather than external price feeds.
What Binance said
In a Friday announcement, Binance said the contracts are designed to extend price discovery beyond traditional FX trading hours. Shunyet Jan, Binance's trading head, said the goal is to give traders a venue to hedge or take positions around the clock.
Other crypto exchanges already moved in
Binance is not first in this market. Bybit introduced 24/7 perpetual futures tracking EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY less than two weeks earlier, also settled in USDT and offering up to 100x leverage.
Kraken went earlier still, launching FX perpetuals tied to the euro, British pound, Australian dollar, Japanese yen and Swiss franc in April 2025 with up to 50x leverage. Kraken has offered spot FX trading since 2020 and reported $5.7 billion in FX spot volume in the first part of 2025.
The market is the largest of any financial market. Global over-the-counter FX turnover averaged $9.6 trillion per day in April 2025, according to a report from the Bank for International Settlements.
What is confirmed
The launch date, contract name, settlement currency, maximum leverage and the dual-mode pricing system all come from Binance's own announcement. The details on Bybit, Kraken and FX market turnover come from Cointelegraph's reporting and the Bank for International Settlements.
What is still unclear
The supplied sources do not say which currency pairs Binance plans after USDBRLUSDT, which regions the contracts will be available in, or what fees apply. They also do not explain how closely the weekend orderbook pricing will match prices in the traditional FX market when it reopens.
Why this matters
Traditional FX markets close for the weekend, leaving gaps in pricing and no way to trade or hedge during that time. Binance's contracts are built to run continuously, and they give crypto traders a way to gain exposure to currency movements without holding the underlying currencies.
What happens next
The USDBRLUSDT contract is scheduled to go live on Sept. 21, 2026.
