Bitcoin Magazine Books Opens 333-Copy Genesis Book Collector Edition

333 signed copies go on sale for the third anniversary

Bitcoin Magazine Books opened a third-anniversary campaign on Friday for Aaron van Wirdum's The Genesis Book. It offers a redesigned Collectors Edition limited to 333 hand-signed and individually numbered hardcovers.

Each copy comes in an exclusive Genesis Block slipcase, a protective cover for the book. Van Wirdum is a former Bitcoin Magazine editor-in-chief. The book traces the people, projects and ideas that came before Satoshi Nakamoto's peer-to-peer cash design.

Van Wirdum discovered bitcoin in 2013. The book covers computer scientists, privacy activists and heterodox economists who sought government-independent digital money long before the 2008 white paper. It covers early cypherpunk culture and experiments such as David Chaum's ecash, Wei Dai's b-money, Adam Back's Hashcash and Hal Finney's reusable proof of work.

Prices from $9.99 for digital to $5,000 for copy number 1

  • The standard Collectors Edition package costs $221. It includes a limited trading card with a Certificate of Authenticity, a collector pin, a sticker sheet, the slipcase and a digital package.
  • The number 1 package costs $5,000 and the number 21 package costs $2,500. Each is a one-of-one package with the matching numbered copy, a matching one-of-one collector card and the same accessories as the standard package.
  • A Premium Edition hardcover costs $160. It has foil stamping, a ribbon marker, stained page edges and custom endsheets. It is not limited, signed, numbered or slipcased, and it does not include the collector accessories or digital files.
  • A standalone Digital Package costs $9.99. It provides the ebook in EPUB format and the audiobook in MP4 format immediately after purchase.

Numbering, shipping and a print run that will not be repeated

Standard collector numbers are assigned in purchase order starting at number 2 and skipping number 21, according to the campaign FAQ. Once preorders close, the signed print run will not be reproduced.

The digital package is available immediately and does not depend on whether the physical campaign reaches its funding target. Physical collector and premium orders are scheduled to ship in calendar year 2027.

Store images of the slipcase and accessories are artistic renderings. The campaign page says colour, materials and finishes may vary in production. The campaign is operated by BTC Inc, which publishes Bitcoin Magazine.
