Bybit expands crypto options to US stock perpetuals

Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit is launching a new type of options contract tied to stock perpetuals. These markets will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, beginning on September 17 at 8 p.m. UTC.

The initial offerings will cover SpaceX (SPCX) and Nvidia (NVDA). This marks the first time an exchange has introduced options contracts linked to stock perpetuals, which are futures-style agreements that track the price of underlying assets.

How the new trading works

Users can trade fractional lots, meaning they do not need to buy entire contracts. Settlement will be done in USDT, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar. The products will integrate directly into Bybit’s Unified Trading Account.

The platform supports advanced strategies such as spreads, straddles, and covered calls. It also allows portfolio margin, which lets traders use their assets across multiple positions to meet margin requirements.

Bybit plans to add new expiration dates regularly and expand to other assets, including Tesla (TSLA), the QQQ ETF, the SOXL chip-focused ETF, and Micron (MU). The company states these products are designed to remove traditional market-hour limits and the standard 100-share minimum found in conventional equity options.

Growth in tokenized equity trading

This launch follows a trend of increasing activity in tokenized stock trading. In July, Ondo allowed users to use tokenized stocks as collateral to trade perpetuals on stocks, commodities, and other assets. This extends the use of tokenized equities beyond simple buy-and-hold exposure.

According to data from The Block, volume for tokenized-equity perpetuals grew from $85 billion in January to approximately $470 billion in June. SpaceX was the most-traded equity perpetual in June, accounting for over $66 billion in volume.

Activity is also rising on Hyperliquid, a decentralized exchange. Equity-focused HIP-3 markets on the platform grew from roughly 2% of total perpetual volume at the start of the year to around 50% by June. Nvidia, Tesla, and Nasdaq-100 contracts are driving much of this onchain activity.

Why this matters for crypto investors

Major exchanges and platforms, including Coinbase, Kraken, and Robinhood, are pushing toward 24/7 equity trading. Bybit’s move integrates options into this growing market for perpetual contracts tied to equities.

Tokenized stocks are increasingly being used as building blocks for more complex financial products. This convergence allows crypto traders to access traditional US equity derivatives without relying on traditional financial markets.

The product is available to Bybit users meeting the platform's eligibility requirements. No specific pricing or fees were disclosed in the source material.
