Capital B posts $78M first-half loss amid growing Bitcoin holdings
Accounting charge drives reported loss for French Bitcoin treasury
Capital B, a France-based company that holds Bitcoin on its balance sheet, reported a net loss of 69.5 million euros ($78 million) for the first half of 2026. The loss was primarily caused by a $75.8 million Bitcoin impairment charge.
An impairment charge is an accounting adjustment that reduces the value of an asset on a company's books when its market price falls below what was previously recorded. Capital B said the charge reflected Bitcoin prices as of June 30 and had no direct impact on the company's cash reserves.
Company keeps buying Bitcoin despite the red ink
- Capital B raised $30 million during the first six months of 2026.
- Bitcoin holdings grew 11% from January to June, rising from 2,823 BTC to 3,139 BTC.
- Total holdings reached 3,538 BTC by September 30, a 25% increase from the start of the year.
- The company's total Bitcoin treasury is valued at $290 million, making it Europe's second-largest corporate Bitcoin holder and the 25th-largest worldwide, according to Bitcointreasuries.net.
Revenue edge higher, stock struggles
Consolidated revenue rose 3.5% year-over-year to $6.5 million, though adjusted EBITDA — a measure of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization — came in negative at $1.2 million.
Capital B's shares rose 0.5% in early Friday trading but remain down 25% year-to-date, according to Yahoo Finance.
Financing moves support accumulation plans
In July, Capital B approved a 10-for-1 reverse stock split, a move the company said was aimed at broadening its institutional investor base. In June, shareholders approved up to $120 billion in financing capacity, including equity and credit instruments, to support the company's Bitcoin accumulation strategy.
What comes next
Capital B has not yet released figures for the third quarter or full-year 2026 results. The company continues to raise capital and add Bitcoin to its treasury.
