Celestia's TIA Surges 23% as Rally Extends to Nearly Three Months
TIA Jumps 23% While Bitcoin and Ether Slide
Celestia’s TIA token rose about 23% over roughly 24 hours through the early morning of Oct. 17, according to The Defiant. That pushed its four-week gain to 83%, while bitcoin and ether both fell over the same period.
TIA traded at about $0.7455 at 1:50 a.m. ET on Oct. 17, data from CoinGecko showed. Over seven days, the token gained about 55%.
Over the same windows, bitcoin dropped 0.74% in a day and 1.38% in a week. Ether fell 0.72% and 2.73%, respectively. Both assets outperformed TIA only over the full 28 days, when bitcoin gained 0.6% and ether dropped 7.41%.
Fees Rise But Blob Data Falls
The price surge has not been matched by more data posted to Celestia. The blockchain lets developers publish data in packages called blobs. Daily blob size slipped to about 2.01 billion bytes on Oct. 16, down from 2.05 billion on Oct. 15, according to Celenium’s daily series.
Dollar-valued transaction fees rose, however. DefiLlama reported fees climbing from $96 to $158 on the same days. The 30-day rolling fee total came to $2,712, essentially flat from the prior day’s $2,701. DefiLlama measures fees paid in TIA and converts them to dollars, so higher dollar fees do not necessarily mean more bytes were posted.
Eden Launches as an ‘Agentic Commerce’ Sandbox
Since The Defiant’s Oct. 16 report on TIA’s earlier rally, Celestia announced a new chain called Eden on Oct. 16 at 7:20 a.m. ET. The project describes Eden as a “sandbox for agentic commerce experiments” and an Ethereum-compatible chain that runs its own execution environment while posting data to Celestia mainnet.
Eden uses TIA as its native gas token. The announcement timing does not establish that Eden caused TIA’s price increase, the article notes. Eden is an application-facing chain using Celestia’s data-availability service, not an upgrade to Celestia mainnet itself.
What the Supply Data Shows
Celestia’s supply documentation says annual inflation dropped to roughly 2.5% after the v6 upgrade in November 2025. The same docs note that ongoing token unlocks continue for core contributors and the research-and-ecosystem allocation.
Why the Price Surge Stands Out
TIA’s rally is unusual because it has happened alongside weaker fundamentals on the network side. Blob volume declined while fees rose in dollar terms, a divergence The Defiant first flagged in its Oct. 16 piece. The token’s gains have also sharply outpaced both bitcoin and ether, which posted negative returns over the one-week and four-week windows.
What Is Still Unclear
The article does not identify a specific catalyst for TIA’s latest jump. The Eden announcement may be related, but its timing alone does not prove causation. It is also unclear whether the fee increase reflects higher per-blob pricing, more expensive transactions, or a mix of both.
