Circle to Acquire Tazapay for $400 Million to Expand Cross-Border Payments
Circle agrees to $400 million deal for Singapore payments firm
Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, has agreed to acquire the Singapore-based payments company Tazapay for $400 million in stock. A stablecoin is a type of cryptocurrency designed to maintain a steady value, usually by being pegged to a traditional currency like the U.S. dollar.
This purchase is one of the largest publicly disclosed acquisitions for Circle. The deal aims to help the company bridge the gap between digital stablecoins and traditional local banking systems across the globe.
Major transaction details
- The $400 million price will be paid in shares of Circle stock.
- The final amount will be adjusted based on Tazapay’s debt, cash, and transaction expenses.
- Tazapay processes more than $25 billion in annualized payment volume.
- Approximately 60% of Tazapay’s current transaction volume already involves stablecoins.
Bridging stablecoins and traditional finance
Tazapay provides infrastructure that connects financial institutions to more than 60 banking and fintech partners. This allows businesses to collect and pay out money in over 100 different markets using local banking systems.
While stablecoins can move across blockchains globally, they often require regulated intermediaries to be converted into local currencies. This acquisition gives Circle access to existing "last-mile" infrastructure, which means the company may not have to build its own payment networks in every individual country.
Part of a broader expansion strategy
This deal follows several other recent acquisitions by Circle. In 2025, it paid roughly $100 million for Hashnote, a firm that issues tokenized money-market funds. Circle also recently acquired a portfolio of nearly 1,000 blockchain patents from IBM.
The purchase of Tazapay is the most expensive acquisition for Circle since it bought the crypto exchange Poloniex in 2018. Other past deals include the purchase of infrastructure provider Cybavo in 2022 and payments software firm Elements.
Regulatory status and confirmed facts
Tazapay currently holds licenses or registrations in Singapore, Canada, Australia, and the United States. It is also applying for licenses in the European Union, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates. As of early 2026, the company served more than 1,000 firms across 30 countries.
Circle and Tazapay have a pre-existing relationship. Tazapay has been involved in designing the Circle Payments Network since 2025.
Timeline for closing the deal
The acquisition is expected to close in 2027. It must first receive approval from regulators, including the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Until the deal is officially completed, Tazapay’s services, pricing, and customer support are expected to remain the same.
