Echo Protocol to Wind Down, Halting New Deposits and Borrowing

Echo Protocol begins shutting down

Echo Protocol, a service that offers Bitcoin-based lending and yield products, said on Oct. 19 that it is winding down. New lending deposits, borrowing, strategy deposits and staking have already stopped.

Repayments, withdrawals and necessary liquidations are still open. The team also said interest on lending has stopped accruing.

What the shutdown notice says

  • New deposits, borrowing, strategy deposits and staking are halted.

  • Repayments, withdrawals and necessary liquidations remain available.

  • Lending interest accrual has stopped.

  • The notice says all loans must be repaid by Nov. 14, 2026, and that operations will cease after that date.

  • Its timeline separately lists Nov. 19, 2026, at 6:59 p.m. ET as the final deadline for repayments, withdrawals and unstaking.

  • Echo said unpaid loans could lead to collateral liquidation. Proceeds would be used to pay what borrowers owe to lenders.

  • No final completion date has been set for liquidation and distribution.

How much money was on the platform

DefiLlama snapshots from Oct. 19 showed $10.71 million in total value locked (TVL) across Echo, mostly on B² Network and Bitcoin. TVL is the total value of assets held in a protocol. Those figures exclude active loans. DefiLlama separately tracked about $257,000 in outstanding borrowing.

The affected Aptos products held much smaller amounts: about $2,500 in Echo Lending, $13,700 in Echo Liquid Staking, and zero TVL in Echo Strategy, according to DefiLlama.

Steps users are told to take

Echo described a different exit path for each product:

  • Lending: repay outstanding debt, release collateral and withdraw available assets.

  • Strategy: “initiate exits as soon as possible” and complete claims when eligible.

  • Liquid staking (called LSD in the notice): keep using the existing unstake-and-claim process.

Claim availability for the staking and strategy products depends on when each staking or unstaking request was made, Echo said. The team warned users to ignore requests to transfer funds or to sign privately for a wallet address, and pointed support questions to its official Discord.

Two deadlines listed in the same notice

The shutdown notice gives borrowers conflicting dates. One part says all loans must be repaid by Nov. 14, 2026, with operations ending after that. The timeline in the same notice lists Nov. 19, 2026, at 6:59 p.m. ET as the last deadline for repayments, withdrawals and unstaking. It is not clear from the notice which date applies.

Bridge stays open for aBTC

Echo said the Aptos-to-B² bridge will stay open for aBTC redemptions after operations cease. The notice does not give an end date for that service.

Why the shutdown matters

Echo held millions of dollars in user assets, and borrowing was still outstanding at the time of the announcement. Because new lending and borrowing have stopped but repayment deadlines are listed differently in two places, borrowers need to watch the dates they are given directly by the protocol.
