Franklin Templeton Registers ETFs That Reinvest Stock Dividends into Bitcoin

Franklin Templeton registers final step for dividend-to-Bitcoin funds

Franklin Templeton, an asset manager with $1.7 trillion in assets, completed the final regulatory step to launch two exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on Nasdaq. These funds are designed to reinvest stock dividends directly into Bitcoin.

The move allows investors to hold U.S. stocks and automatically build a Bitcoin position without manually buying the cryptocurrency.

Key numbers and details

  • Both funds launch with a portfolio split of 95% U.S. stocks and 5% Bitcoin.
  • The first fund, ticker FBEQ, tracks the 500 largest U.S. companies.
  • The second fund, the Innovation ETF, targets 100 large non-financial companies listed on Nasdaq.
  • The expense ratio for the FBEQ fund is 0.09%.

How the funds operate

Instead of using dividends to buy more shares of the original stock, these funds use the cash to buy Bitcoin at the market open the day after the ex-date. This means the Bitcoin portion of the portfolio grows with each dividend payment.

To limit risk, the funds have specific rules. If the Bitcoin allocation grows above 5% during a quarterly rebalance, it is reduced to 4.5%. If Bitcoin exceeds 20% of the fund between rebalances, it is cut back to 4.5% within two business days. This ensures the funds remain primarily stock investments with a Bitcoin component, rather than pure Bitcoin funds.

The ETFs do not hold Bitcoin directly on the blockchain. They gain exposure through Bitcoin exchange-traded products, futures, options, or depositary receipts.

Official source

Franklin Templeton filed a Form 8-A with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on October 22, 2026, to register the shares for trading on Nasdaq. A prospectus filed the same day sets the effective date for the launch as October 27, 2026.

Why this matters for investors

This structure allows traditional stock investors to participate in the Bitcoin market without opening a separate crypto exchange account or managing a digital wallet. The prospectus notes that investors can lose money and that Bitcoin price swings will affect the fund's value.

What happens next

The funds are scheduled to begin trading on Nasdaq on October 27, 2026. The market response to this strategy will become clear after the launch date.
