Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin crashes 99% after launch, team blames sniper bots and thin liquidity
Launch volatility and crash
Hunter Biden’s newly launched LAPTOP memecoin experienced extreme price swings on its first day. The token briefly reached a market cap of about $110 billion before falling more than 99 % to roughly $0.84.
Key points
- Price spiked above $300 after the airdrop, then dropped to $0.84.
- Team attributes the swing to sniper bots and thin initial liquidity.
- 4 million tokens (0.4 % of supply) will be added to Aerodrome pools as liquidity incentives.
- Two prediction events burned 10 million tokens, reducing circulating supply by about 1 %.
- Bubblemaps reports most traders lost money, with a few losing up to $1 million.
Liquidity and sniper bots
In a Medium post, the LAPTOP team said the initial pool launched at $0.05 and attracted strong demand. They said “predatory sniper bots” bought large amounts quickly, while the market maker’s liquidity was too low to absorb the trades, causing rapid price spikes and drops.
Liquidity incentives and token burns
To improve liquidity, the team will deploy 4 million tokens at midnight UTC on Sep 10 to incentivize trading on Aerodrome pools. They also confirmed that two prediction‑based events resolved “Yes,” triggering a burn of 10 million tokens, which should cut the circulating supply by roughly 1 % within the first week.
Airdrop and community
The airdrop was open to real people, with 80 million LAPTOP tokens claimable by Substack subscribers who joined before Sep 6. The team said there was no presale or influencer allocations, and that no one could buy the token before the airdrop.
Trader losses
Analytics firm Bubblemaps called the launch a “bloodbath.” Their data showed about 80 % of traders lost money: two traders lost between $100 k and $1 M, roughly 100 lost $10 k–$100 k, and about 700 lost $1 k–$10 k.
