Kraken delays IPO again, now targeting mid-2027 at the earliest

Kraken, a major crypto exchange, has delayed its initial public offering (IPO) once more, this time pushing it to at least April 2027. An IPO is when a private company first sells shares to the public on a stock exchange.

The exchange, owned by parent company Payward, has now postponed its IPO multiple times over nearly six years.

Timeline of delays

In April 2021, then-CEO Jesse Powell said Kraken aimed to go public in 2022. By June 2021, he adjusted the target to the second half of 2022. That same year, incoming CEO Dave Ripley offered no clear timeline, and the IPO did not happen.

In June 2024, reports said Kraken was raising pre-IPO funds, but no public listing followed. By March 2025, Payward planned an IPO for early 2026. In November 2025, it filed a draft registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), expecting to list after review.

In March 2026, reports said the IPO was on hold. Kraken’s co-CEO later confirmed filings but did not name a date. By May 2026, the IPO was pushed to 2027. The latest delay, reported on September 2, 2026, moves it to mid-2027 at the earliest.
