OKX Launches Onchain Spot and Perps Beta With Mock Trading
OKX opens mock-trading beta for traditional markets
OKX has launched a public beta of Onchain Spot and Perps inside its app, letting eligible users test trading in stock, index and commodity markets using free simulated points instead of real money. The exchange said real-funded trading will follow after the competition ends.
The beta runs from 10 p.m. ET on October 14 through 11 a.m. ET on November 14. It shares a 250,000 USDT prize pool with Outcomes Season 3.
Key details of the beta program
- Users earn trading points called XP, which have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn, transferred or redeemed.
- Initial mock markets include gold, the S&P 500 ETF, and themes tied to SpaceX and Nvidia, each with separate spot and perpetual trading pairs.
- Participants are testing trading strategies, not buying actual shares in those companies.
- Eligible regions include Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, the CIS region, and the Middle East and North Africa.
- Users must complete identity verification and set up a dedicated onchain account with a passkey through their existing OKX account.
How the onchain account works
The trading venues run on Exchange OS, a platform built on X Layer. OKX describes the account as self-custodial, meaning users control their own private keys. The account is designed to hold a unified balance across Spot, Perps and Outcomes products.
Spot and perpetual markets share margin, so users do not need to move funds between product accounts. Perpetual contracts provide leveraged long or short exposure without an expiry date.
This launch adds an onchain route to traditional-market exposure alongside OKX's existing offerings. In June, the exchange expanded its European X-Perps product to stocks, commodities and index trackers with up to 10 times leverage. In July, OKX rolled out more than 40 tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs traded against USDT through its order book, initially using Backed Assets' xStocks. That product is unavailable to customers in the United States or Europe.
What comes after the beta
OKX said in its beta announcement on X that "real-asset trading follows." Funded trading will open after the competition ends, with users funding their Onchain Account directly from their OKX exchange account. Spot and Perps positions will settle onchain in USDS, a stablecoin pegged one-to-one to USDC.
The exchange made clear that XP earned during the campaign and any positions taken with those points will not convert into funded positions.
What is confirmed
OKX has opened a mock-trading beta for onchain spot and perpetual markets covering select traditional assets. The contest runs through November 14, is limited to certain regions, requires identity verification, and offers a 250,000 USDT prize pool shared with Outcomes Season 3. Funded trading is planned for after the contest ends.
Why this matters for crypto traders
The beta represents OKX's latest push to bring traditional market access onchain, giving users a risk-free way to test strategies before committing real funds. It also extends the exchange's existing pattern of offering tokenized and synthetic exposure to traditional assets across multiple product lines.
