SDEV stock rises nearly 1,000%, then drops 92%

Stablecoin Development Corp (SDEV), a company built to hold and stake the governance token SKY, saw its stock price climb nearly 1,000% and then fall 92% within a matter of weeks, according to Protos.

The stock was trading for under $0.90 by October 14, with a market cap of $45 million. Protos reported that the reason for the rapid rise and fall is not clear.

Key numbers behind the move

  • SDEV's stock rose almost 1,000% and later fell 92% over a few weeks.
  • By October 14, the share price was below $0.90.
  • The company's market cap stood at $45 million.
  • The 30-day moving average rose from $0.95 to over $1.75 in about a month.
  • Other short sellers reported trouble borrowing shares in the days before the price fell.

Short-seller report questions the company's foundations

A Substack called Fugazi Research published an article questioning the foundations of Stablecoin Development Corp. According to Protos, the report pointed to upcoming warrants that would dilute retail shareholders and add new, unpurchased shares to the market.

Protos said it is likely the short-seller report contributed to the stock's fall. A short seller is an investor who bets that a price will go down.

Still unclear: valuation and Tether's warrants

Protos said it remains unclear why the company was valued at $500 million, even if only for a day.

Protos also said it was tracking the 30-day moving average because that price would matter to people and entities that may exercise warrants soon. Warrants are rights to buy shares at a set price later.

Warrants tied to Tether became eligible to be exercised on October 16. As of the report, no new SEC filings recorded an exercise, and no documents discussing new ownership percentages had appeared. It is not confirmed whether Tether has exercised or plans to exercise those warrants.

Why this matters

The sharp rise and fall shows how quickly a small, thinly traded crypto-linked stock can move. The questions raised about warrant-driven dilution and the missing ownership filings are central to how the company's share structure could change.

What happens next

Protos said it will keep following SDEV and whether Tether exercises its warrants over the next few weeks.
