Stacks STX Rallies 50% in Four Weeks on Bitcoin Staking Demand
STX climbs over 50% while major coins stay flat
Stacks' native token STX has surged more than 50% over the past four weeks, outpacing bitcoin, ether, XRP, and other major cryptocurrencies. The token gained nearly 10% in 24 hours and 14% over the past week, even as broader crypto prices remain choppy.
CoinDesk reported that this outperformance likely reflects growing investor interest in Stacks' non-custodial bitcoin staking architecture. This system allows bitcoin holders to stake and earn yield directly on the Bitcoin blockchain while keeping full control of their private keys. By contrast, traditional yield methods require users to wrap their bitcoin into synthetic tokens or move funds across cross-chain bridges.
How the bonding mechanism drives STX scarcity
Stacks relies on a bonding mechanism that requires participants to lock up assets to secure the network. Bonding Period 3, due in November, requires holders of STX to lock a specific ratio of STX alongside their bitcoin — equivalent to roughly 5% of the total value of their BTC — to secure protocol stacking capacity.
This creates a feedback loop for STX: as more bitcoin enters the Stacks ecosystem, more STX is locked up and removed from the active market. Earlier Periods 1 and 2 served as preparatory phases to transition signers and bootstrap initial liquidity.
Other altcoins also gain as liquidity shifts
STX is not the only token seeing strong movement. CoinDesk noted that BDX, REDNER, and PYTH each added about 6% over the same 24-hour window. This may signal liquidity moving toward coins beyond the largest cryptocurrencies.
Macroeconomic backdrop still matters
The broader market context remains tied to economic indicators. A U.S. Consumer Price Index report was set to release on Wednesday, which could influence expectations for upcoming Federal Reserve interest-rate decisions.
