Strategy resumes bitcoin purchases with 4,603 BTC for $369.7 million

Strategy, a company that holds bitcoin as a primary asset, has purchased an additional 4,603 BTC for approximately $369.7 million. The average price per bitcoin in this purchase was $80,318, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Total holdings now exceed 845,000 BTC

The company, led by Michael Saylor, now holds 845,050 BTC in total. These were acquired at an average price of $75,412 per bitcoin, with a total cost of around $63.73 billion, including fees and expenses. At current prices above $78,000, the holdings represent a paper profit of roughly $2.34 billion.

The latest purchase was funded by proceeds from the sale of Strategy’s Class A common stock (MSTR) under its at-the-market offering program. Last week, the company sold 4,531,421 shares for approximately $602.8 million.

Funding and stock activity

Of the $602.8 million raised, $369.7 million was spent on bitcoin. Another $151.8 million went to repurchasing 1,557,177 shares of STRC preferred stock, while $50.7 million was allocated to STRC dividends. The remaining $30 million was added to the company’s USD Cash account, which stood at $1.61 billion as of August 30. The company’s USD Reserve was $5.1 billion.

As of August 30, $19.09 billion worth of MSTR shares remained available for issuance and sale under the ATM program.

Return to buying after a pause

The acquisition follows a period in which Strategy trimmed or held its bitcoin holdings steady. On August 30, Saylor posted on X, “We’re back,” signaling a resumption of buying activity. Earlier that day, he shared another post saying, “paint the bears orange,” a phrase often used to indicate fresh bitcoin purchases.

Strategy’s bitcoin treasury

Strategy’s holdings now represent more than 4% of bitcoin’s 21 million supply cap. The company is the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, according to data from Bitcoin Treasuries. Other public companies with significant bitcoin holdings include Tether-backed Twenty One (43,514 BTC), Metaplanet (43,000 BTC), MARA (35,577 BTC), and Bitcoin Standard Treasury Company (30,021 BTC).
