Privy brings XRP Ledger support to its wallet platform

Stripe-owned Privy and Ripple have announced a partnership that adds XRP Ledger (XRPL) support to Privy's developer wallet platform. The integration lets developers build XRPL wallets directly into their applications without constructing the underlying wallet infrastructure on their own.

With this setup, developers can create and manage wallets, sign transactions, and support XRP, Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin, and other assets issued on the XRP Ledger. A stablecoin is a type of cryptocurrency designed to hold a stable value, typically pegged to the US dollar.

What the partnership includes

  • Embedded wallets that work inside apps so users do not need a separate crypto wallet.
  • Support for XRP, RLUSD, and other assets on XRP Ledger.
  • Wallet infrastructure for AI agents to hold funds and make payments.
  • Compatibility with x402 payments, which allow software and AI agents to pay for online services.

Statements from both companies

Henri Stern, co-founder and CEO of Privy and head of crypto and stablecoins at Stripe, said, "Stablecoins are changing how money moves, and XRPL has been building for payments from the start. We're excited to make Privy wallets available to developers building on XRPL, from global payments to agentic commerce, and whatever comes next."

Markus Infanger, senior vice president of RippleX at Ripple, commented that Privy brings proven wallet infrastructure that makes it easier for fintechs and developers to bring XRPL into real products, from payments and stablecoin experiences to emerging forms of agentic commerce.

What this means for users and developers

Privy offers embedded wallets that run inside an app, so users do not need to connect a separate cryptocurrency wallet. This can help fintech and payment companies offer stablecoin-based services without requiring users to manage their own private keys. Private keys are the secret codes that control access to a crypto wallet.

Privy said users can still export their private keys and seed phrases if they want to move their wallets to another service.

Stripe acquired Privy last year, but Privy continues to operate independently. This partnership extends XRPL support into Privy's wallet services as Stripe expands its stablecoin and crypto business.

Planned future additions

Privy said it plans to expand the integration over time by adding policy controls and gas sponsorship. Policy controls would let developers set rules for transactions. Gas sponsorship would let developers cover network fees on behalf of users. Network fees are the small amounts of cryptocurrency charged to process transactions on a blockchain.
