Uniswap Labs Buys Pons Token to Deepen Partnership
Uniswap Labs Takes Stake in Rival Launchpad
Uniswap Labs has purchased tokens from Pons, a memecoin launch platform on Robinhood Chain. Pons announced the move on Thursday, stating that Uniswap Labs bought its token for "long-term alignment." This purchase comes four weeks after Uniswap Labs launched its own competing launchpad on the same network.
Pons operates a service that helps new tokens get launched. It also provides the liquidity pools that handle trading for tokens after they are created. This integration is a key part of why the partnership matters.
Key Numbers Behind the Deal
- Pons V2 routes tokens into Uniswap V4 pools, creating a direct link between the two platforms.
- Robinhood Chain accounts for 56.3% of all Uniswap V4 trading volume across every network.
- Neither Uniswap Labs nor Pons disclosed how many tokens were bought, the price paid, or which wallet holds the new position.
Competition on Robinhood Chain
The purchase adds context to the rivalry between the two launchpads. Uniswap Labs launched its own platform, Pools.trade, on August 5. It charged a 0.25% fee per trade and offered free token launches. On its first day, Pools.trade outperformed Pons.
However, Pons has since grown to become the top fee-earning launchpad in crypto. Over the past 24 hours, it earned $5.95 million in fees. This surpasses the daily earnings of Solana's pump.fun, a well-known launchpad.
Trading Volume and Token Performance
Uniswap V4 handled $1.6 billion in trading volume over 24 hours. Robinhood Chain alone made up $901.5 million of that total. The chain has attracted significant interest since its launch, passing Ethereum in daily application revenue recently.
The PONS token hit a record high of $0.5242 earlier on Thursday. It trades at roughly $0.50, giving it a market value of $357.1 million. About 29.34% of the total token supply has been burned so far, a process that removes tokens from circulation to potentially increase scarcity.
Why This Matters for DeFi Users
The deal highlights how major DeFi protocols are integrating with newer, high-speed blockchains like Robinhood Chain. By owning a stake in Pons, Uniswap Labs ensures its infrastructure remains central to the ecosystem. It also signals a shift from pure competition to a more cooperative model where rivals share in each other's success.
What Is Still Unclear
Details about the transaction remain scarce. It is unknown whether Uniswap Labs bought the tokens on the open market or received them directly from the Pons team. There is also no information on when the purchase occurred or the exact size of the stake.
