Selection Process – UPSC Civil Services 2026
The selection process has three stages:
1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
Paper 1: General Studies – 200 marks, 2 hours
Paper 2: CSAT – 200 marks, 2 hours (qualifying, need 33%)
2. Main Examination (Written)
9 papers (2 qualifying language papers + 7 merit papers). Total written marks: 1750. Includes Essay (250), General Studies (1000), Optional Subject (500).
3. Interview
275 marks. Total for merit: 2025 marks.
Negative Marking: 1/3 mark deduction for wrong answers in Prelims.
