Visa and Mesh partner to let people pay with crypto at 175 million merchants
Visa and Mesh join forces on crypto payments
Visa has partnered with crypto payments network Mesh to let people pay with cryptocurrency and stablecoins (digital tokens designed to hold a steady value) directly from their digital wallets — apps that hold digital assets — at merchants across Visa's global network.
Mesh announced the partnership on Monday. According to the company, users of participating wallets will be able to pay in stores or online without moving funds to a bank account or getting a separate crypto card. Merchants would receive payments through Visa's existing network without changing their checkout systems.
What the deal includes
- Visa's network covers more than 175 million merchant locations in over 200 countries and territories.
- Mesh will handle transaction funding and conversion between cryptocurrencies, stablecoins and fiat currencies (government-issued money such as the US dollar).
- Visa payment credentials will be provided through participating wallet apps.
- Mesh will also manage customer onboarding and Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, the identity verification rules that payment firms must follow.
Mesh's earlier moves
The partnership follows Mesh's integration with Bybit Pay in September, which let users spend directly from their exchange balances on supported platforms. In January, Mesh raised $75 million in a funding round led by Dragonfly, valuing the company at $1 billion.
Which wallets will be included and when
Key details are still missing. Mesh said the participating wallets, supported devices and launch dates will be announced once rollout plans are finalized. No timeline has been given yet, and it is not yet known which wallet apps will take part.
Why this matters
The deal could make everyday spending with crypto simpler, because people would not need a separate crypto card and merchants would not need to change their payment systems. That said, the announcement describes a plan, not a service that is already available, and the rollout details remain unannounced.
