World launches self-custodial World Money app in more than 150 countries
World Money starts rolling out worldwide
World has launched World Money, a self-custodial app that combines stablecoin payments, digital asset rewards and trading in one place. The company said the rollout began Thursday in more than 150 countries, and that the features available to users will differ by location.
Self-custody means users hold and control their own digital assets rather than leaving them in the hands of a company. A stablecoin is a digital token designed to hold a steady value, usually tied to a currency such as the US dollar.
What users can do in the app
- Send supported digital assets, including stablecoins, to another person's World username.
- Deposit eligible assets to earn rewards.
- Buy and sell digital assets through exchanges, which are platforms where digital assets are traded.
- Open "Mini Apps," including Kalshi, Credit and Morpho.
- Fund an account and buy stablecoins with Apple Pay through a partnership with Stripe, starting with users in the United States.
Identity and money now sit in two separate apps
World said the launch splits its identity and financial services across two dedicated apps. The World ID App handles identity verification and credentials, while World Money provides the wallet, payments and other financial features. A wallet is software that stores the keys needed to hold and move digital assets.
World added that existing World App and World ID App users can use their current accounts for World Money.
How World App grew into World Money
World has been adding financial features to World App since it launched in May 2023, when it combined World ID with a crypto wallet, stablecoin transfers and token trading.
In October 2024, World introduced World App 3.0, described at the time as a "super app for humans," adding third-party Mini Apps and a Vault feature for earning on assets. In November 2025, it piloted virtual bank accounts in the United States before expanding them to more countries a month later, allowing paychecks and bank deposits to be converted into USDC.
Who operates World Money
World Money is operated by Tools for Humanity, the company co-founded by Sam Altman and Alex Blania that develops technology for the World network.
What is confirmed
The launch and the rollout in more than 150 countries come from World's own announcement, which is the primary source for the details of the app. World confirmed that the rollout began Thursday, that features vary by location, that the separate World ID App handles identity, and that existing users can keep using their accounts.
What is still unclear
The sources do not list which countries are included or which features are available in each market. They also do not give a completion date for the rollout, or say how many people have signed up or used the app.
Why this matters
World is known for identity verification, and this launch moves its consumer product further into everyday money features such as payments, rewards and trading. Because the company says features differ by location, what a user can actually do will depend on where they live.
