X Adds Direct Trading Links for Bitcoin and Stocks

X users can now trade crypto and stocks from the app

Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, has introduced a new feature that lets U.S. users trade Bitcoin and stocks directly from their timelines. By clicking on specific tags for financial assets, known as cashtags, users can view price charts and access trading services through partner platforms.

The feature allows users to react quickly to financial news or discussions they see while scrolling. While the app displays real-time prices, X itself does not process the trades. Instead, it acts as a bridge to established financial services.

Key details of the new trading feature

  • U.S. users can tap cashtags like $BTC or $TSLA to see real-time market data.
  • A "Trade" button connects users to external platforms to complete transactions.
  • X does not act as a broker; the actual buying and selling happen on partner exchanges, which are platforms where people trade digital or traditional assets.

Supported trading platforms

X has partnered with several financial and crypto platforms to facilitate these trades. These partners include Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken, and Coinbase. When a user clicks the trade button, they are sent to one of these platforms to log in or create an account and finish their order.

X moves toward becoming a financial hub

The update is part of a larger plan to turn X into a broad destination for finance and banking. Because X is a major center for crypto community discussions, this feature allows users to act on information immediately without leaving the ecosystem for long.

Mridul Singhai, the product engineering lead at X, stated that cashtags help bridge the gap between a ticker symbol on the timeline and the actual market. The platform currently has millions of daily active users, making it a significant hub for market-moving conversations.
