X launches US 'Trade' button for crypto and stock cashtags

How the new X trade feature works

X introduced a U.S. Cashtag Partner Program on September 15 that adds a "Trade" button to specific stock, ETF, and cryptocurrency pages. This feature allows users to initiate transactions through five partner firms: Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo.

The button does not execute trades on X itself. Instead, when a user taps a cashtag, they see the price chart and related posts. They can then select one of the participating brokerages. The user is redirected to that firm’s app or website, where they must log in or create an account to complete the purchase or sale.

Asset coverage varies by partner

  • Gemini supports stocks and five specific cryptocurrencies: ZEC, HYPE, BTC, ETH, and SOL.
  • Kraken allows U.S. users to tap any crypto cashtag to route to the exchange, which claims to offer access to more than 2,400 tokens.
  • Coinbase, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo are listed as launch partners for stocks and ETFs, with Moomoo specifically guiding users from stock conversations to its ticker platform.

Transactions happen at the partner

The source confirms that X acts only as a discovery and routing layer. All final account access and transaction execution occur through the selected brokerage's mobile app or web experience. X does not process market or limit orders directly. Existing customers continue to their established accounts, while new users are directed to sign up with the partner of their choice.
