XRP ETFs End 13-Week Inflow Streak as Crypto Fund Outflows Hit $575.9M

XRP ETFs end 13-week inflow streak

US-listed XRP exchange-traded funds ended a 13-week streak of positive weekly flows. An ETF is a fund that trades on a stock exchange and holds assets such as a cryptocurrency.

Data from SoSoValue showed XRP funds recorded $1.84 million in net outflows in the week ended Oct. 16. A week earlier, they had taken in $11.31 million.

The XRP reversal removed the last source of positive flows among four major crypto ETF categories. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana funds all continued to lose capital in the same week.

Key numbers from the week

  • XRP ETFs: $1.84 million in net outflows, ending 13 straight positive weeks.
  • Bitcoin ETFs: $228.58 million in net withdrawals.
  • Ethereum ETFs: $319.97 million in net withdrawals.
  • Solana ETFs: $25.52 million in net withdrawals.
  • Combined four-category outflows: $575.91 million for the week, bringing two-week withdrawals to about $1.81 billion.
  • Weekly outflows slowed from roughly $1.24 billion the previous week.

Ethereum leads the withdrawals

Ethereum was the largest single source of weekly outflows, accounting for about 56% of the four categories' combined net withdrawals.

Its $319.97 million loss was smaller than the previous week's $542.07 million withdrawal, but it extended Ethereum's losing streak to three consecutive weeks. Ethereum ETFs have now shed roughly $1 billion over that period, reducing cumulative net inflows to $12.94 billion.

Net assets in Ethereum ETFs fell to $14.95 billion from $15.71 billion a week earlier. The article says that change reflects both net withdrawals and changes in Ether's price.

Solana's second negative week

Solana funds recorded their second consecutive negative week after a long period of steady accumulation ended earlier this month.

The $25.52 million weekly withdrawal followed $24.81 million in redemptions the previous week, bringing two-week losses to $50.33 million. Cumulative inflows declined to about $1.56 billion, while net assets fell to $1.62 billion.

Bitcoin ETF demand weakens

Bitcoin ETF withdrawals moderated substantially, falling about 66% from the previous week's $681.10 million outflow. Still, it was a second consecutive negative week, bringing combined Bitcoin ETF withdrawals to about $910 million during the period.

Cumulative net inflows fell to $56.88 billion, while total net assets dropped to $104.29 billion. The slowdown comes as Bitcoin struggles to hold a recovery above $80,000 amid concerns about US monetary policy and the broader outlook for risk assets.

CryptoQuant analyst Axel Adler said Bitcoin ETFs had two straight weeks of net withdrawals, though their trailing 30-trading-day flows remained positive at about 15,400 BTC as of Oct. 16. He noted weekly outflows had eased to around 2,800 BTC, suggesting selling pressure was moderating even as institutional accumulation continued to slow. These are his assessments, not confirmed outcomes.

Higher Treasury yields and ETF buying

Bitcoin-focused research platform Ecoinometrics reached a similar conclusion in an Oct. 16 assessment. It highlighted weaker ETF buying since Bitcoin recovered above $80,000 in late September.

The firm found that daily inflows and outflows had largely offset each other over nearly three weeks, leaving cumulative net demand barely positive despite the recovery.

Ecoinometrics linked the slowdown partly to rising US Treasury yields and the Federal Reserve's increasingly restrictive monetary policy. With benchmark 10-year Treasury yields recently reaching levels last seen in 2002, the firm said investors face stronger competition for capital between interest-bearing securities and assets such as Bitcoin and gold, which generate no inherent yield.

The firm observed that both assets had benefited from renewed ETF investment since the summer, although Bitcoin's cumulative buying momentum had flattened while demand for gold was also beginning to moderate. It added that its Fed Communications Index shows policymakers becoming progressively more hawkish since March, with the latest meeting minutes reinforcing expectations of further tightening.

XRP fund assets and the longer streak

XRP funds had recorded positive flows every week from the week ended July 17 through Oct. 9. Cumulative net inflows remained around $1.80 billion.

XRP ETF assets fell to $1.47 billion from $1.57 billion a week earlier. The source says this reflects both investor withdrawals and changes in the underlying token's market value.

What is confirmed

The weekly flow figures for XRP, Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana ETFs, the end of XRP's 13-week inflow streak, and the asset and cumulative inflow levels are reported as data from SoSoValue. The interpretation of why flows slowed — including the link to Treasury yields and Fed policy — comes from CryptoQuant and Ecoinometrics and is analysis, not confirmed fact.

Why it matters

These funds are one way large investors get exposure to crypto without buying the tokens directly. When all four categories lose money in the same week, it shows that demand through this channel has weakened across the market at the same time.
