XRP ETFs add $1.7 billion while weekly inflows stay thin

Five tracked US spot XRP exchange-traded funds held roughly $1.7 billion as of Oct. 6, according to data tracker Maketo. But the money coming in recently has been small. Aggregate net inflows over the past week totaled about $3.9 million.

On Oct. 6 alone, Franklin and Canary recorded withdrawals, while the five funds combined still posted positive net inflows. Bitwise stood out with roughly $11 million entering its fund, offsetting about $4.1 million leaving Franklin and $3.3 million leaving Canary. Grayscale and 21Shares were flat.

XRP traded near $1.43 on Oct. 7, down more than 5 percent over 24 hours. Bitcoin sat around $83,100 at the same time, below its Oct. 6 close.

Exchange declines less dramatic than they appear

Some market readers point to falling exchange balances as a sign of tightening supply. Data from XRP Insights showed a seven-day drop of 26.5 million XRP across tracked exchange wallets. The monthly figure looked much larger: a decline of 1.63 billion XRP.

However, most of that monthly fall came from an Uphold storage migration that moved coins into newer wallets outside the tracker's set. Excluding Uphold, the drop was 75 million XRP, or 0.54 percent. Even that adjusted number may include transfers between an exchange's own accounts rather than customers taking coins away.

Futures trading dwarfs spot activity

On Oct. 7, XRP futures turnover reached $3.97 billion over 24 hours, compared with $801.56 million in covered spot turnover, according to CoinGlass. Open interest stood at $3.35 billion.

That heavy derivatives activity does not reveal who the dominant sellers are. Gross turnover counts all trading on both sides. Distinguishing a leveraged unwind from fresh short positioning requires looking at price, funding rates and liquidation data together. A drop in open interest alone would not prove forced liquidations drove the move.

What Ripple's escrow release means

Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow on Oct. 1 and re-escrowed 700 million, leaving 300 million available, according to XRP Insights' ledger tracker. The source does not confirm whether those coins were sold.

Why this matters for XRP investors

The $1.7 billion in ETF holdings shows steady accumulation since the funds launched. The recent flow data suggests that pace has slowed to a crawl. At the same time, much of the exchange-balance decline reflects accounting changes rather than customers moving coins to private wallets. Futures volume shows active trading, but the data do not identify whether leverage unwinds or new positioning is driving price moves.

What comes next

The data point to three useful signals to watch: stronger net ETF additions, exchange movements that can be traced beyond storage migrations, and derivatives data showing how positions changed during price drops.
