Zcash Jumps 23% as Crypto Markets Rebound Following Fed Rate Hike

Zcash Surges as Bitcoin Holds $76,000

The privacy-focused cryptocurrency Zcash jumped 23% in 24 hours, reaching approximately $1,369. This rally occurred alongside gains for Bitcoin and other major digital assets, despite the Federal Reserve raising interest rates for the first time since 2023.

Bitcoin (BTC) rose less than 1% to trade around $76,258. The broader market also saw gains, with Solana climbing nearly 3% toward $100. Other tokens, including Ethereum, XRP, and BNB, rose between 1% and 2%.

Paradigm Co-Founder Backs Zcash as Bitcoin Complement

A key driver for Zcash's price movement was a social media post by Matt Huang, co-founder of the prominent crypto investment firm Paradigm. Huang disclosed that his firm owns ZEC and described the token as "a private complement to Bitcoin."

Zcash allows users to conduct transactions without publicly revealing who paid whom or the amount involved. Huang stated that Paradigm supports continued funding for Zcash developers and argued that token holder votes should be combined with other methods when deciding on network changes.

Fed Hike Prices In as Markets Breathe Sigh of Relief

The Federal Reserve increased its benchmark interest rate by a quarter percentage point, setting a range of 3.75% to 4%. The move was widely expected by investors.

Typically, higher interest rates can hurt speculative assets like cryptocurrencies because they make borrowing more expensive and increase the appeal of safer, interest-bearing investments like government bonds. However, markets rebounded because investors viewed the hike as limited.

The Fed’s median projection suggests the policy rate could reach 4.1% by the end of both 2026 and 2027, implying only one more small increase this year. Jeff Ko, chief analyst at ViaBTC, noted that the increase was largely "priced in" and that the Fed signaled it does not envision an aggressive tightening cycle.

Broader Financial Markets Rally

The relief sentiment extended beyond crypto. U.S. stock futures rose, with the S&P 500 gaining 0.6% and the Nasdaq 100 up 0.7%. Asian equities also added roughly 0.3%.

Key Numbers

  • Zcash (ZEC) price: ~$1,369 (up 23%)
  • Bitcoin (BTC) price: ~$76,258 (up <1%)
  • Solana (SOL) price: Just below $100 (up ~3%)
  • Federal Reserve benchmark rate: 3.75% to 4%
  • Projected Fed rate end of 2026/2027: 4.1%

What Is Confirmed

Zcash rose 23% to ~$1,369. Bitcoin traded above $76,000. The Federal Reserve raised rates by 0.25% to a 3.75%-4% range. Paradigm’s Matt Huang confirmed his firm owns ZEC and publicly endorsed the network's governance and privacy features.

Why This Matters for Investors

The market's reaction to the Federal Reserve's decision shows that crypto investors are focusing on future rate expectations rather than the current hike. The rebound indicates that the threat of aggressive rate increases has faded, allowing risk assets like cryptocurrencies to recover.
