Mercari Fee Calculator
Mercari Fee Calculator estimates what a seller takes home and what a buyer pays. Enter the item price, shipping method, package weight and who pays shipping, then add authentication, transfer or cancellation options.
The seller side models the 10% selling fee on newer listings, while the buyer side models the 3.6% buyer protection fee and optional sales tax. A legacy listing mode uses the older buyer-fee and payment-processing structure.
The rates and shipping tables are stored in the page. They are estimates, not a quote from Mercari, and the platform can change fees, shipping rates or eligibility rules.

What the calculator shows
The result has three main cards: seller net payout, buyer total cost and the prepaid shipping label rate. A detailed breakdown under each card lists the item price, shipping, selling fee, buyer protection, tax, authentication, transfer and cancellation lines that apply.
The seller card shows total deductions and a net payout. The buyer card shows extras and the total cost. The shipping card shows the rate for the selected method and weight, with a note that the table is effective from a specific date.
This dual view is useful because Mercari's newer fee structure shifts some cost to the buyer. A seller who only looks at the selling fee can miss what the buyer actually pays, which affects whether the item sells.

New versus legacy listings
For a new listing, the page applies a 10% selling fee to the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. The buyer pays a 3.6% protection fee on the same base, plus shipping and optional tax. The seller does not pay a separate buyer payment-processing fee in this model.
For a legacy listing, the seller side typically has no selling fee, while the buyer pays a 10% buyer fee plus payment processing of $0.50 and 2.9%. That older structure can produce a very different buyer total for the same item price.
Choose the status that matches the listing, not the date you are calculating. A listing created before January 2025 but updated afterward may follow the newer rules. Check the listing's fee details if you are unsure.
Shipping tables
The page stores shipping rates by method and weight bracket. The rates are selected by finding the first bracket at or above the entered weight; if the weight exceeds the table, the last bracket is used. USPS First-Class Envelope is handled differently, using an ounce threshold and a flat envelope rate.
Shipping can be paid by the buyer or the seller. If the buyer pays, the shipping amount is added to the buyer total and to the seller's fee base. If the seller pays, the page displays the shipping cost as a seller deduction.
Shipping rates change. The table in the page is a stored snapshot, not a live carrier quote. Check the carrier or Mercari label page before pricing a listing.
How to estimate a payout
- Enter the item price.
- Choose the shipping method and weight. Use the actual packaged weight, not the item's bare weight.
- Choose who pays shipping.
- Select the listing status.
- Add sales tax if you want to see the buyer's total, not the seller's payout.
- Add authentication, transfer or cancellation costs if they apply.
- Read the seller net payout and the buyer total, then compare them with the breakdown.
If the payout looks too high for a seller-paid shipping order, inspect the shipping line. The page's simplified arithmetic can show seller-paid shipping in the deductions while the payout formula adds it back. Treat the payout as an estimate and verify it against the sale details.
What is not included
The calculator does not model income tax, payment reserves, returns, partial refunds, promoted listings, or the cost of packaging and gas. It does not know your seller level or any account-specific adjustment.
It also does not include a live carrier surcharge, dimensional weight, or a remote-area fee. A large but light package can cost more than the table suggests because carriers bill by dimensional weight.
Use the result to compare scenarios and set a price, not as a final accounting entry. Reconcile the actual payout with the Mercari statement.
Privacy and limits
The calculation runs in the browser. The price, weight and options are not uploaded to Newisty. The page does not connect to a Mercari account or store a history.
The shipping table has a finite number of brackets. A weight above the last bracket uses the last rate, which may understate the real cost. A weight below the first bracket uses the first rate.
Do not rely on the page for a high-value sale without checking the current fee schedule and shipping label price. A small rate change can matter on a thin margin.
Pricing with shipping
Shipping changes the fee base in the new-listing model. If the buyer pays $10 shipping, the 10% selling fee applies to the item price plus that $10. The buyer also pays protection on the same base. Free shipping can therefore be more expensive than it looks: you absorb the label cost and lose the shipping revenue that would have helped cover the fee base.
Run both scenarios. First calculate with the buyer paying shipping. Then calculate with the seller paying and a higher item price. Compare the net payout and the buyer total. The better option depends on how price-sensitive the buyer is and how much the shipping costs.
Use the actual packaged weight. A 1 lb item in a sturdy box may be 1.5 lb. The shipping table jumps at bracket boundaries, so a small weight increase can change the rate.
Authentication and high-value items
Mercari Authenticate adds $5, and Authenticate + Certificate adds $10 in the page. For a high-value item, authentication can support the sale price, but it comes out of the seller's payout. Run the calculation with and without it to see whether the net still works.
Authentication does not guarantee a sale or a specific outcome. It is a service cost, not insurance. The calculator does not model the value of a certificate or the time spent arranging it.
For low-value items, the fee can be a large percentage of the sale. Add it only when the buyer expects it or the category requires it.
Cancellations and transfers
A cancellation is modeled as 5% of the item price, capped at $25. That is a fee, not a refund of the selling fee or shipping. If an order is canceled after a label is purchased, the shipping cost may also be lost or require a carrier refund.
Instant Pay costs $3 in the page. A failed direct deposit costs $2. Direct deposit is free. These are flat fees, so they matter more on small sales. A $10 item can lose a large share of its payout to a $3 instant transfer.
The calculator does not model a partial refund or a return shipping label. Those can be more expensive than the cancellation fee. Keep the estimate conservative for items with a high return risk.
