PNG to JPG Image Converter

This converter changes PNG images into JPG. It is useful when a portal, email system or older program accepts only JPEG, or when a large PNG screenshot needs a smaller photographic file. The server decodes the PNG, writes a JPEG, and returns a download link.

JPEG does not support transparency. Any transparent area in the PNG must be flattened onto a solid colour, and the result can look different from the original. JPEG is also lossy, so the quality slider matters.

The output is often smaller than the PNG, but not always. A simple graphic with few colours may already be compact as PNG, while a detailed photo can shrink dramatically as JPEG.

What happens to a PNG when it becomes a JPG

The server reads the PNG, decodes it into pixels, and re-encodes those pixels as JPEG. The JPEG encoder discards some colour and detail to reduce the file size. The amount of loss depends on the quality setting.

PNG transparency has no equivalent in JPEG. Transparent pixels are composited onto a background by the image library before encoding. If the result shows an unexpected dark or coloured area, flatten the image onto the background colour you need in an editor, then convert again.

The conversion does not preserve the PNG's lossless property. Once the file is saved as JPEG, repeated editing and re-saving can add more artifacts. Keep the original PNG if you may need to edit the image later.

Choosing a quality level

The slider runs from 10 to 100 and defaults to 75. For photographs, 75 is a practical starting point that usually keeps the image looking clean at normal viewing size while reducing the file substantially. Higher values preserve more detail and increase size.

Text, sharp lines, logos and high-contrast edges are the first places where low quality becomes visible. JPEG compression creates ringing and blocky patches around hard edges. If the image is a screenshot or a diagram, consider keeping PNG or using a higher quality.

There is no single best value. Compare the output at the size it will be viewed, not at 400 percent zoom. If the destination has a file-size limit, lower the quality gradually and check the reported size.

Transparency, colour and backgrounds

JPEG cannot store an alpha channel. A transparent PNG must become opaque. The safest workflow is to open the PNG in an editor, place it on the exact background colour the destination expects, flatten it, and then convert the flattened image here.

A white background is common for documents and marketplaces, but it is not universal. A dark website, a printed label or a coloured form may need a different background. The converter does not offer a background-colour picker, so prepare it before uploading if the colour matters.

Colour profiles and metadata may change during conversion. Check critical brand colours in the final file. A browser preview is convenient, but it is not a colour-managed proof.

When the JPG will be smaller

Photographs and complex images usually become much smaller as JPG because the encoder can discard subtle detail that the eye is less likely to notice. A large PNG photo can shrink to a fraction of its original size.

Simple graphics, screenshots with large flat areas and images with few colours may not shrink much. In some cases the JPEG can even be larger, especially at a high quality setting. The output badge shows the actual difference for your file.

If size is still too large, reduce the pixel dimensions, lower the quality, or consider WebP if the destination supports it. Converting the same PNG repeatedly with different settings is fine as long as you start from the original each time.

Resize and DPI controls

Choose a resize unit to reveal width and height. Pixels are best for screen or form requirements. Percent is useful for a quick reduction. Inches, centimetres and millimetres help when a print size is specified.

The DPI field writes print metadata. It does not change the pixel dimensions and does not make a low-resolution image suitable for high-quality printing. Set it only when the destination asks for a specific value.

Downscaling before JPEG encoding often produces a cleaner result than encoding at full size and letting another program shrink it. Resize once, from the best source, and avoid repeated lossy saves.

Batch conversion and URL input

You can queue several PNG files. Each gets a card, and Process All sends the pending images with the same settings. This is handy for preparing a set of screenshots or product images for a JPEG-only upload form.

The From URL field accepts one image address per line. The server fetches the remote PNG and converts it. Remote hosts can block the request, require authentication or return an HTML error page, so a URL that opens in your browser may still fail here.

Each file is limited to 10 MB. Very large batches can take time and memory. Split long lists into smaller groups and check the first output before processing the rest.

How to convert PNG to JPG

Leave Convert Format on JPG. Set the quality level, then choose any resize or DPI value the destination requires. If transparency matters, prepare a flattened copy first.

Add the PNG by dragging it onto the upload area, browsing for it, or pasting a URL. Confirm the queue card and press Process. For multiple files, add them all and use Process All.

Compare the output size and inspect the preview for edge artifacts or an unexpected background. Download the JPEG and open it in the target application. If it is rejected, check the required dimensions, file size and colour mode.

Limitations and practical advice

The file picker is configured to suggest JPEG files, so some browsers may hide PNG files in the browse dialog. Drag the PNG onto the upload area or use the URL option. The server accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, JIFF and BMP sources.

The converter does not remove backgrounds, crop, rotate or choose a background colour for transparency. It also does not guarantee that a portal will accept the JPEG; some forms require a specific naming pattern, dimensions or maximum KB that this page does not enforce.

Keep the original PNG until the JPEG has been accepted. If you need to make further edits, return to the PNG rather than editing the compressed JPEG. This preserves the best available quality.

Comparing the JPG result with the PNG source

Open both files side by side at the size the audience will see. Check flat areas for banding, text for ringing, and transparent regions for an unexpected background. A JPEG can look fine in a thumbnail and show problems when enlarged, so inspect the output before publishing or uploading it.

If the JPEG is smaller but visibly worse, raise the quality or reduce the dimensions instead of accepting heavy compression. If it is larger than expected, the source may be a simple graphic that PNG already stored efficiently. In that case, keep the PNG or try WebP when the destination supports it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Kurze Antworten auf die Fragen, die Nutzer stellen, bevor sie dem Ergebnis vertrauen.

No. JPEG does not support transparency. Transparent areas are flattened onto a solid background, so prepare the background colour before converting if it matters.

No. Photos usually shrink a lot, but simple graphics and screenshots may not. A high quality JPEG can even be larger than the source PNG.

Start around 75 for photographs. Use a higher value for text and sharp graphics, and lower it gradually if a file-size limit is the priority.

Yes. Add multiple files to the queue and use Process All with one set of settings. Split the batch if the images need different dimensions or quality levels.

The picker is set to suggest JPEG files. Drag the PNG onto the upload area or use the From URL field; the server still accepts PNG input.

Not by itself. DPI is metadata. Print quality also depends on pixel dimensions, colour, sharpness and the printer's requirements.

Only if you kept the original PNG or another alpha-capable copy. A flattened JPEG cannot be converted back into a clean transparent image.
