What the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board does
The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, known until recently as the Rajasthan Subordinate and Ministerial Services Selection Board, conducts recruitment for subordinate and ministerial posts across Rajasthan from its offices in Jaipur. A large part of its workload is the Common Eligibility Test at both senior secondary and graduation level, and it also runs direct recruitment drives for clerk, junior assistant, stenographer, patwari, agriculture supervisor and teaching associate posts.
What makes this record distinctive is that it publishes paired pixel sizes rather than a mixture of units. The photograph is offered at 240 by 320 and at 480 by 640 pixels, and the signature at 280 by 80 and at 560 by 160, with each pair being exactly double the other. Those are not different requirements in the way a centimetre figure and a pixel figure would be, they are the same frame at two output densities, so you pick the one your notice names and nothing more is at stake.
The RSMSSB notice itself is on rsmssb.rajasthan.gov.in. Check the upload section of that document before generating files, since these requirements are revised between intakes and the values stored in this tool follow the recorded specification.
This page sets out the numbers RSMSSB actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.
What the RSMSSB form asks you to upload
Two images are required, and a failure in either one holds up the application. They are:
- A photograph at 3.5 x 4.5 cm, no heavier than 100 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.
- A signature at 3.5 x 1.5 cm, no heavier than 50 KB and no lighter than 20 KB.
| Item | Size | Unit | Format | Max file size | Min | DPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 3.5 x 4.5 | cm | JPEG | 100 KB | 50 KB | 96 |
| Photo | 240 x 320 | px | JPEG | 100 KB | 50 KB | 96 |
| Photo | 480 x 640 | px | JPEG | 100 KB | 50 KB | 96 |
| Signature | 3.5 x 1.5 | cm | JPEG | 50 KB | 20 KB | 96 |
| Signature | 280 x 80 | px | JPEG | 50 KB | 20 KB | 96 |
| Signature | 560 x 160 | px | JPEG | 50 KB | 20 KB | 96 |
The RSMSSB numbers, and why they matter
RSMSSB publishes its sizes in both units, which means the record is offering two ways to express the same kind of requirement. Pick the row that matches how your own advertisement is worded: centimetres when the notification states a physical frame, pixels when it states a resolution. They are alternatives published for different notifications, not a sequence to apply in turn.
There are two limits to satisfy for RSMSSB, not one. The upper bound on the photograph is 100 KB and the lower bound is 50 KB; the signature runs 20 KB to 50 KB. Compression that overshoots is easy to fix by lowering quality again, but a file under the floor cannot be fixed by compressing further, it needs a larger source image.
The RSMSSB record offers 3 photograph options and 3 signature options: 3.5 x 4.5 cm; 240 x 320 px; 480 x 640 px. These come from different notifications and different recruitment streams rather than from one form, so there is no single right answer to which to use. Take the size from the advertisement you are actually applying under, and if it names a size that is not listed here, enter it by hand in the width and height fields.
If the RSMSSB application refuses your file
- If RSMSSB refuses a file, start with the weight on the result card against the 100 KB, then look at the picture. At this ceiling, an uncropped phone photo straight off the camera will not fit, so crop before you compress rather than after.
- For the RSMSSB signature, keep the crop tight around the ink. The 3.5 x 1.5 cm frame is small, so every extra millimetre of empty paper is weight you do not have, and the 50 KB ceiling does not leave room for it.
- Repeating an identical submission is the most common wasted step here. Compare the values above against the live notification, and if the notification has moved, change one value at a time rather than re-running the whole form.
Frequently Asked Questions
The mechanics of the crop step, the face mask overlay, and the compression trade-off are identical across all of these tools, so they have their own guide instead of a section on every page. Read the shared photo and signature guide.
