What the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission is

The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission conducts recruitment for the state government and runs the state civil service examinations alongside a very large number of direct recruitment advertisements for subordinate and ministerial posts. The combined civil service and the various group recruitment drives move on their own calendars, so an applicant may have more than one live application in the same season.

Because several drives run at once, the MPPSC record carries a wide set of accepted photo and signature sizes rather than one. The stored options include the standard 3.5 by 4.5 centimetre frame, both at 96 and at 200 DPI, alongside pixel dimensions of 130 by 170, 160 by 200, 125 by 150 and 100 by 90 for the signature. They are alternatives offered by different advertisements rather than a required sequence, so the correct one comes from the specific notification you are applying under.

The official MPPSC site is mppsc.nic.in. Take the photograph and signature numbers from the notification published there rather than from a third-party summary, since that document is the one the portal was built against.

This page sets out the numbers MPPSC actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.

What the MPPSC form asks you to upload

Two files go into this form. They are:

  • A photograph at 3.5 x 4.5 cm, no heavier than 500 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.
  • A signature at 3.5 x 1.5 cm, no heavier than 500 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.

The MPPSC numbers, and why they matter

MPPSC publishes its sizes in both units, which means the record is offering you two ways to express the same kind of requirement. Pick the row that matches how your own advertisement is worded: centimetres when the notification states a physical frame, pixels when it states a resolution. They are alternatives published for different notifications, not a sequence to apply in turn.

Resolution appears more than once in the MPPSC record, at 200 and 96 DPI. That is not a contradiction: the physical frame is the same in both, and the choice is how densely the image is stored. Where an advertisement is silent, the 200 DPI row is the safer one, because a denser image still measures correctly at a lower resolution while the reverse is not true.

There are two limits to satisfy for MPPSC, not one. The upper bound on the photo is 500 KB and the lower bound is 50 KB; the signature runs 50 KB to 500 KB. Compression that overshoots is easy to fix by lowering quality again, but a file under the floor cannot be fixed by compressing further, it needs a larger source image.

The MPPSC record offers 4 photo options and 4 signature options: 3.5 x 4.5 cm; 130 x 170 px; 160 x 200 px. These come from different notifications and different recruitment streams rather than from one form, so there is no single right answer to which to use. Take the size from the advertisement you are actually applying under, and if it names a size that is not listed here, enter it by hand in the width and height fields.

If the MPPSC application refuses your file

  • A MPPSC rejection usually comes down to one of two things. Either the file is over 500 KB because the crop left too much empty background, or the photo itself has a non plain background, a tilt, or a filter. Fix the weight first since it is measurable, then the photograph.
  • For the MPPSC signature, keep the crop tight around the ink. The 3.5 x 1.5 cm frame is small, so every extra millimetre of empty paper is weight you do not have, and the 500 KB ceiling does not leave room for it.
  • When two identical files are both refused, the file is usually not the variable. Re-check the notification against the table above, since a corrigendum between your two attempts is the usual explanation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The mechanics of the crop step, the face mask overlay, and the compression trade-off are identical across all of these tools, so they have their own guide instead of a section on every page. Read the complete photo and signature guide.

FAQ

Des réponses succinctes aux questions que se posent les utilisateurs avant de se fier au résultat.

3.5 x 4.5 cm at 200 DPI, in JPEG, with the file kept at or under 500 KB and not under 50 KB. That row in the table is the preset the tool applies when MPPSC is selected.

3.5 x 1.5 cm at 200 DPI, in JPEG, capped at 500 KB with 50 KB as the floor. Crop close to the ink so the empty paper around it does not push the file past the ceiling.

The ceiling is 500 KB and the floor is 50 KB. Compression runs on export until the output fits, and the result card prints the achieved weight against the limit rather than leaving you to check it yourself.

Keep the download in JPEG. Re-encoding the file afterwards, which is what happens when it passes through a chat app or an image editor, adds bytes and can alter the stored dimensions even though the picture looks unchanged.

The preset stores 3.5 x 4.5 cm, 130 x 170 px, and 160 x 200 px photo rows, plus a 200 DPI variant. All are JPEG at 50-500 KB; use the row named in your notice.

Yes, if the advertisement asks for 200 DPI. The stored higher-resolution row accepts the same 50-500 KB range.
