GIF to JPG Image Converter

This converter turns GIF images into JPG. It is useful when a site or form accepts only JPEG, or when you need a still picture from a simple graphic. The server decodes the GIF, writes a JPEG, and returns a download link.

A GIF can contain several frames and a transparent colour. JPEG supports neither animation nor transparency. The output is a single still frame, and transparent areas are flattened onto a solid background.

The result may look different from the original, especially for pixel art, logos and images with sharp edges. Check the preview and the reported file size before using the JPEG in a publication or upload form.

What happens to an animated GIF

An animated GIF is a sequence of frames played in a loop. JPEG is a single-image format. When the server converts the file, it saves one frame rather than the whole animation. The other frames are not included in the output.

If the first frame is not the moment you want, extract the correct frame with an animation editor before converting. This page does not offer a frame picker, a timeline or a preview of every frame. It also does not create an animated JPEG, because that format has no animation support.

For a simple static GIF, the conversion is more predictable: the one frame becomes one JPEG. For a meme, a short reaction clip or an animated icon, expect to lose the motion entirely.

Transparency and the GIF palette

GIF supports one transparent colour, which is either fully transparent or fully opaque. JPEG has no alpha channel, so that transparency must be replaced by a solid colour during encoding. The result can show a dark, white or otherwise unexpected box around the subject.

If the background matters, open the GIF in an editor, place it on the exact background colour you need, flatten it, and then convert the flattened image here. A white background is common, but a product page, dark theme or printed form may need something else.

GIF is limited to a palette of up to 256 colours. JPEG uses a different colour model and lossy compression. Flat colours may develop slight mottling, and hard edges can pick up ringing. Pixel art and line drawings are particularly vulnerable.

Quality, size and sharp edges

The quality slider runs from 10 to 100 and defaults to 75. Higher values preserve more detail and create larger files. Lower values reduce size and can introduce blocky patches, soft edges and colour banding.

A small GIF often contains large flat areas, which compress extremely well in the GIF format. Converting it to JPEG can actually increase the file size while making the edges look worse. The output badge shows the real difference; do not assume that every conversion saves space.

Use a higher quality for logos, screenshots and text. Use a lower quality only when the image is photographic and the destination has a tight size limit. Compare the output at its display size, not zoomed in.

Resize and DPI controls

The resize menu offers pixels, percent, inches, centimetres and millimetres. Pixels are the clearest choice for screen or form requirements. Percent is convenient for a quick reduction. Physical units help when a print size is specified.

DPI writes print metadata. It does not change the pixel count and does not make a low-resolution GIF suitable for high-quality printing. Set it only when a destination asks for a specific value.

Downscaling before JPEG encoding can reduce edge artifacts and file size. Enlarging a small GIF adds pixels but no real detail. Start from the largest source you have and resize once.

Batch conversion and URL input

You can add several GIF files at once. Each file gets a queue card, and Process All sends the pending images with the same quality, resize and DPI settings. Each output is downloaded separately; the images are not combined.

The From URL option accepts one image address per line. The server fetches the remote GIF and converts it. A host that blocks hotlinks, requires a login or returns an HTML page can make the fetch fail even if the image opens in your browser.

Each file is limited to 10 MB. Animated GIFs can be large, so a batch may take longer than expected. Split long lists into smaller groups and check the first result before processing the rest.

How to convert GIF to JPG

Leave Convert Format on JPG. Set the quality level, then add an optional resize or DPI value. If the GIF has transparency, prepare a flattened copy with the background colour you want.

Add the GIF by dragging it onto the upload area, browsing for it, or pasting a URL. Confirm the queue card and press Process. For multiple files, add them all and use Process All.

When the output appears, inspect the preview for a missing subject, an unexpected background or damaged edges. Download the JPEG and open it in the destination application. If the still frame is wrong, extract a different frame and convert that instead.

Limitations and practical advice

The file picker is configured to suggest JPEG files, so some browsers may hide GIF files in the browse dialog. Drag the GIF onto the upload area or use the URL field. The server accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, JIFF and BMP sources.

This converter does not choose a frame, preserve animation, remove a background or repair a low-quality GIF. It also does not check whether a portal accepts the JPEG. Dimensions, naming rules and KB limits are the destination's responsibility.

Keep the original GIF if you may need the animation or transparency later. A JPEG cannot be converted back into a clean animated GIF. For a modern web animation, consider a video or an animated WebP instead of forcing the content into a still image.

GIF versus JPEG for simple graphics

GIF and JPEG fail in opposite ways. GIF keeps hard edges and flat colours but limits the palette, while JPEG keeps a broad colour range but blurs sharp transitions. A logo or a chart often looks cleaner in GIF or PNG than in JPEG, even when the JPEG has a larger file size.

For a photograph, the trade-off reverses. JPEG stores continuous tones efficiently, and a GIF version may show banding because of the 256-colour palette. Use the format that matches the content rather than converting every image out of habit.

If a portal insists on JPEG, inspect the result at the size it will be displayed. A small icon may survive, while a detailed diagram may become unreadable. In that case, keep the GIF or PNG for the web and produce a JPEG only for the upload that requires it.

No. JPEG is a still-image format. The converter saves one frame, so the motion, loop and timing are lost.

No. There is no frame picker. Extract the frame you want with an animation editor, then convert that still image.

It is flattened onto a solid background because JPEG has no alpha channel. Prepare the background colour in an editor if it matters.

GIF compresses flat colours efficiently. A small graphic with few colours can grow when converted to JPEG, especially at a high quality setting.

Yes. Add multiple files to the queue and use Process All. Each GIF is converted separately and downloaded as its own JPEG.

The picker is set to suggest JPEG files. Drag the GIF onto the upload area or use the From URL option; the server still accepts GIF input.

Not by itself. DPI is metadata. Print quality also depends on pixel dimensions, sharpness, colour and the printer's requirements.
