eDistrict Photo Resizer
Shrink your applicant photo for an e-District certificate or service request. This tool crops to 3.5 x 4.5 cm at 200 DPI and saves a JPEG between 5 KB and 20 KB, the stored preset. States run their own e-District portals, so check your form's limit before uploading.

Photos for e-District certificate requests
e-District is a Mission Mode Project under India's National e-Governance Plan. Each state runs its own e-District portal where residents apply for services such as income, caste, residence and similar certificates, either on their own or through a Common Service Centre. Many of these forms ask for an applicant photograph, and the limits are set by the state portal you are using, not by one national rule.
This page is built for that single photograph. It is not an exam tool: there is no signature or thumb preset here, only the passport-style picture that goes into the service request.
The one file this page makes
- Applicant photograph: 3.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm tall, JPEG, between 5 KB and 20 KB.
These are the values stored in this tool. We could not find an official e-District document confirming them, and different states set different limits. The help text on your state's e-District form is the authority; if it allows a different size or a heavier file, follow it.
eDistrict stored preset
| Item | Size | Format | Smallest file | Largest file | Min DPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photograph | 3.5 x 4.5 cm | JPEG | 5 KB | 20 KB | 200 |
How to get a sub-20 KB photo
- The eDistrict preset and photo type are already chosen.
- Upload a phone photo or scan with Browse file; JPG, PNG and WebP are fine.
- Turn on Show face mask guide, centre your face and press Apply crop.
- Choose Skip caption.
- When the result table shows the file inside 5 to 20 KB, press Download processed image.
Why 20 KB is tight
A 3.5 x 4.5 cm frame at 200 DPI is roughly 276 x 354 pixels, and fitting that into 20 KB means real JPEG compression. Plain light backgrounds compress far better than patterned walls, so stand in front of a white wall before you take the picture. Fine detail such as printed shirts and busy hair accessories eats bytes. If the operator at a service centre is uploading for you, hand over the downloaded file rather than a printed photo they would have to rescan.
