Explore World Countries with Newisty: Flags, Official Names, Regions, and More

This country information tool looks up a country by name, code, capital or region. It returns identification details, geography, government and economy data, demographics, translations, logistics and national symbols from a stored dataset.

The lookup uses a local JSON snapshot of country data, not a live feed. The dataset includes 254 objects, including dependencies, and is cached for a day. Autocomplete starts after two characters and shows up to ten suggestions.

Use the page for quick reference, research starting points and data exploration. For an official decision, check the source country's current publication; a snapshot can lag behind changes in names, currencies or representatives.

Lookup modes

The page offers four radio modes: By Name, By Code, By Capital and By Region. By Name is the default. By Code accepts a two- or three-letter code. By Capital searches for a capital city. By Region filters by one of the stored regions.

Name lookup tries an exact match first, then a substring match. Capital and region lookup are exact-only. That means a partial capital name may not return a result even if the full name would.

The URL can also carry a country parameter. If it contains an alpha code, the page auto-loads that country. This is useful for linking directly to a record.

What a country record contains

The result is organised into cards. Identification details include the common and official name, codes, status and membership. Geography covers the region, subregion, capital, area, landlocked status and borders. Government and economy cover independence, UN membership, currencies, GDP and related indicators.

Demographics include population, languages and demonyms. Translations show the country name in multiple languages. Logistics include driving side, calling code, postal code format, time zones and top-level domain. National symbols include the flag and, in some records, a coat of arms.

The page also shows clickable border codes, so you can move from one country to a neighbour. The exact fields vary by record; not every country has every value.

Autocomplete and result limits

Typing in the search field triggers an autocomplete request after about 350 milliseconds. It requires at least two characters and renders at most ten suggestions with a flag, common name, code and region.

The list endpoint returns at most 50 rows. A broad region search may therefore be truncated. If you need every country in a region, use a narrower query or work with the underlying dataset.

The country detail endpoint returns 404 when nothing matches and 503 when an exception occurs. The UI may show a generic no-records message for an empty suggestion response.

Data source and freshness

The data comes from resources/json/country/countries.json, a local snapshot of 254 country and dependency records. The page caches the list for a day. The snapshot is refreshed separately by a REST Countries updater; it is not fetched live on every request.

A local snapshot is fast and predictable, but it can become stale. Country names, currencies, government details and even borders can change. Treat the record as a convenient summary, not as a continuously updated authority.

Some fields may be incomplete or formatted differently from the source. Population figures, GDP values and area measurements are especially likely to have a reference year that is not obvious in the card.

How to use the page

Choose a lookup mode. Type at least two characters and select a suggestion, or enter a full name or code and submit the search. Read the cards from top to bottom.

Use the border links to explore neighbouring countries. Use the translations card when you need a country name in another language. Use the logistics card for calling codes, driving side and domain information.

If a search returns nothing, check the spelling and the mode. A capital search needs the exact capital name; a code search needs a valid two- or three-letter code. Try the name mode if you are unsure.

Known quirks

The coat-of-arms card may render the flag SVG rather than a distinct coat of arms. Do not rely on that card for heraldry.

The international direct dialing field can duplicate the root code and the suffix, producing a value such as +1+1. Use the calling-code field with care and verify it against an official source.

The autocomplete can silently ignore a null result or hide a failed suggestion request. If the dropdown does not appear, submit the search manually or try a different mode.

Practical uses

The tool is handy for writers, students, travellers and developers who need a quick country profile. It can supply a capital, currency, language list, region or calling code without opening several tabs.

For a dataset or application, the underlying JSON can serve as a starting point, but check the licence and the freshness of each field. A local snapshot is not a substitute for an authoritative boundary or demographic source.

For travel planning, use the page to identify the right country record, then confirm entry rules, currency and health requirements with official sources. The tool does not provide visa or safety advice.

Country codes and border data

The record shows both two-letter and three-letter codes. The two-letter code is commonly used in forms and country lists; the three-letter code appears in some financial and statistical systems. Check which one your destination expects.

Border codes are clickable, which makes it easy to move from a country to a neighbour. The list is a convenience, not a survey of every disputed boundary. For legal or mapping work, use an authoritative boundary source.

The page also shows the top-level domain and calling code. These are practical identifiers, but they can change or be shared. Verify them before publishing a directory or building a contact form.

Using the data responsibly

A country profile combines many kinds of data, each with its own reference year and definition. Population, GDP and area figures are not necessarily from the same year. Do not present them as a synchronized snapshot unless you have checked the source metadata.

Names and translations can be sensitive. Use the common name shown for general reference and the official name when a formal document requires it. Do not infer diplomatic recognition from a single field.

If you redistribute the dataset, check its licence and attribution requirements. The tool itself is a reference interface, not a grant to reuse every field without conditions.

A note on region classification

Regions are broad groupings, not political judgments. A country's region field may not match the way you group it for a report. Use the field as a starting point and define your own categories when the grouping matters.

A note on currencies

Currency fields can include more than one currency or a historical name. Check the code and the symbol, not only the label, before using the value in a price or invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pertanyaan yang Sering Diajukan

Jawaban singkat atas pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang diajukan pengguna sebelum mempercayai hasilnya.

Choose By Code and enter a two- or three-letter code. The lookup accepts alpha codes from the stored dataset.

Capital lookup is exact-only. Enter the full capital name, or switch to By Name and search for the country instead.

No. It comes from a local JSON snapshot cached for a day. A separate updater refreshes the snapshot, but the page does not query a live source on every request.

The dataset contains 254 objects, including dependencies. Not every object has every field.

The card may render the flag SVG rather than a distinct coat of arms. Do not rely on it for official heraldry.

Some records concatenate a root code and a suffix, which can produce a value such as +1+1. Verify the number with an official source.

The page exposes a local dataset, but you should check its licence and freshness before redistributing it. The tool does not provide a warranty.
