What this page does

This page converts a GIF to WebP. The output opens on WebP, and the page supports multiple files, a quality setting and optional resizing. The server writes a WebP for each upload and returns a download.

A GIF may be animated; the WebP output here is a still image. The converter is useful for moving a frame to a modern web format, not for preserving a sequence.

Why convert GIF to WebP

WebP usually produces a smaller file than GIF for the same still image, and it supports smooth alpha rather than GIF\'s binary transparency. That makes it a good delivery format for logos, interface graphics and still frames on a modern website.

WebP also handles more colours than GIF, but it cannot restore detail that the GIF already lost. If the source frame was reduced to 256 colours, the WebP keeps that reduced look; it only stores it in a different container.

For a simple flat graphic, the saving can be modest. For a larger still with gradients, WebP may be smaller and cleaner than re-encoding to GIF.

Animation and frame choice

Do not use this page to convert an animated GIF into an animated WebP. The workflow is a still-image converter, and the output should be treated as one frame. If you need animation, use a dedicated tool that understands frame timing.

The exact frame depends on how the source is decoded. It is commonly the first frame or the composed frame. Test the result if the specific moment matters.

Quality and transparency

The default quality is 75 percent. For a still frame, that is a reasonable starting point. Raise it for text or sharp edges; lower it when size matters more than fine detail.

WebP supports alpha, so transparent areas can survive. GIF transparency is hard-edged, and the WebP cannot create soft edges that were never there. Check the result on the final background.

If the GIF has a matte colour around a logo, the WebP may carry that matte as a visible fringe. The conversion does not remove a background or rebuild the alpha.

Compatibility and fallback

Modern browsers support WebP, but not every older editor, chat client or upload portal does. Keep the GIF or a PNG fallback for destinations that require the older format.

On a web page, a picture element can offer WebP first and a GIF or PNG fallback second. That gives modern browsers the smaller file without breaking older clients.

Batch workflow

Add the files, keep WebP selected, set quality and any resize options, then process. Each file is handled separately, and there is no ZIP bundle.

Test one animated GIF and one still GIF before converting a mixed folder. The animated one will lose its motion, and the still one may change size or transparency handling.

Limits and privacy

Files are uploaded to the server for conversion. Do not send private images or identity documents to a public converter. The page does not offer a local-only mode.

Large images and long batches can hit upload or memory limits. Keep the GIF originals until the WebP files have been checked.

WebP quality and file size

The default quality is 75 percent. For a still frame from a GIF, that is usually enough, because the source already has a reduced palette. Raising the quality cannot restore colours the GIF removed; it mainly preserves the edges and any remaining detail.

A WebP may be smaller than the GIF, especially for a large still with smooth areas. It can also be larger for a tiny flat icon. Compare the actual files instead of assuming the modern format always wins.

Using a still in a page

Set the display width and height in the page so the layout does not shift while the image loads. Use a picture element with a GIF or PNG fallback if you need to support older clients. Keep the file name stable and avoid changing the format behind a cached URL without updating the markup.

If the image is decorative, an empty alt attribute is appropriate. If it carries meaning, write a short description rather than repeating the file name.

Common problems

A pale outline around a logo usually comes from a matte colour in the GIF. A soft shadow may become hard because GIF alpha is binary. A photo frame may look flat because the palette was already reduced.

Check the result on the final background and at the final display size. A WebP that looks fine at full size may show a fringe when it is scaled down in a card.

WebP versus GIF for still graphics

For a still graphic, WebP usually wins on size and colour. It can store more colours and smooth alpha, and it is supported by modern browsers. GIF remains useful only when a destination cannot read WebP or when a simple flat image already compresses well.

If the GIF is animated, converting to a still WebP is a downgrade in motion but often an upgrade in image quality for the frame you keep. Decide which matters for the destination before converting.

Alpha and matte colours

A GIF may have a matte colour baked around its transparent area. When that frame becomes a WebP, the matte can remain visible as a fringe. There is no automatic background remover in this converter; use an editor with alpha tools if the edge needs repair.

Test on a light and a dark background. A fringe that is invisible on one can be obvious on the other.

File naming and caching

Keep the .webp extension so servers and editors identify the file correctly. If you replace a GIF with a WebP at the same URL, browsers and CDNs may serve the old cached copy for a while. Give the changed image a new name or purge the cache.

A fallback image should use the same base name and dimensions so the layout does not shift when a browser picks one source over the other. Test the page with the WebP blocked to confirm the fallback still appears.

Check the actual file size before uploading, and compare it with the GIF it replaced. A smaller file that looks worse is not always the better choice, especially for a logo with sharp edges. Test both versions on the final background and keep the one that reads more clearly at the display size.

사용자가 결과를 신뢰하기 전에 자주 묻는 질문에 대한 간결한 답변.

No. The output is a still image. Use an animation-aware tool for frames and timing.

No. It stores the frame it receives. A 256-colour GIF stays visually reduced.

The transparent areas can survive, but GIF has no smooth alpha. Hard edges stay hard.

Start at 75. Raise it for text or sharp detail, and lower it only after checking a sample.

Yes. Add multiple files and process the batch.

Not always. Keep a GIF or PNG fallback where compatibility matters.

No. Download each result separately.
