What the string repeater does

This page repeats a piece of text a chosen number of times and joins the copies with a separator. Type or paste the text, set the count, choose how the copies should be separated, and press Repeat Text. The result appears in the output panel with character and word counts.

It runs in the browser. The text is not uploaded, and the page does not need an account. You can copy the result or download it as a plain text file.

Count and separators

The count accepts a whole number from 1 to 10,000, with a default of 10. The output is the input repeated that many times; a count of one returns the text once, not zero times.

The separator controls what appears between copies. The available choices are none, space, comma, semicolon, newline, tab, pipe, dash and a custom separator. A newline separator is useful for a list, a comma or semicolon for a data field, and a pipe or dash for a readable label.

The custom option lets you type any separator, including a phrase, a slash or a combination of characters. An empty custom separator behaves like none, so the copies run together.

Common uses

Repeat a word or phrase to create placeholder text, a test fixture or a visual pattern. Build a comma-separated list for a query or a spreadsheet, or repeat a label with newlines for a printable sheet.

It is also handy for testing how a layout handles long content. A short string repeated a hundred times reveals wrapping, overflow and truncation problems faster than typing a long paragraph by hand.

For design mockups, repeating a placeholder name can show how a list or a card grid behaves. For data work, repeating a delimiter or a fixed prefix can save manual editing, though a spreadsheet formula is usually better for structured data.

Output size and memory

The output grows with the input length multiplied by the count, plus the separators. A short word repeated 10,000 times is manageable; a long paragraph repeated 10,000 times can produce a very large string and slow the browser.

If the page becomes sluggish, reduce the count or shorten the input. The limit is a guardrail, not a guarantee that every combination will be fast. Copy or download the result before trying another run, because a new run replaces the output.

The character count shows the exact length of the result, including separators. The word count uses whitespace splitting, so a run with no separator counts as one long word.

Copy, download and reuse

Copy places the output on your clipboard. Download saves it as a plain text file named repeated-text.txt. Paste fills the input from the clipboard, and Clear empties the input and output.

If you need numbered copies, this tool does not add numbers. Add a numbering column in a spreadsheet or use a scripting language. If you need random order, shuffle the result elsewhere; the repeater preserves the order and repeats the same string.

Limits

The tool repeats text; it does not evaluate it, format it or interpret placeholders. A string that looks like a variable or a formula is still plain text. It does not insert a newline unless you choose the newline separator or include one in a custom separator.

Very large outputs can hit browser memory limits or make the clipboard slow. Download the file instead of copying when the result is huge.

Separator reference

Separator What appears between copies
None Nothing; the copies run together
Space One space
Comma A comma followed by a space
Semicolon A semicolon followed by a space
Newline Each copy on its own line
Tab A tab character
Pipe A space, a pipe and a space
Dash A space, a dash and a space
Custom Whatever you type

The separator is inserted between copies, not after the final one. That matters for comma-separated lists and query values, where a trailing separator can break the result.

Building lists for data tools

A comma-separated list can be pasted into a spreadsheet cell or used in a simple query. A semicolon-separated list suits some locales and configuration formats. A newline list is easier to paste into a text editor or a form that expects one item per line.

Quoting is still your job. If the repeated text contains a comma and the destination expects quoted fields, wrap each copy before or after repeating. The tool does not add quotes, brackets or a final terminator. For JSON, you still need the surrounding brackets and a valid structure.

Testing layouts and forms

Repeat a short sentence to fill a card, a table cell or a paragraph and see how the layout wraps. Repeat a single long word to test overflow, truncation and horizontal scrolling. Repeat a label with newlines to simulate a long list without typing every row.

For a form, repeat text past a maximum length to check whether the counter and validation behave. For an email template, repeat a placeholder to see how a client handles a long line. Reduce the count before publishing; the test content is not meant to ship.

Large outputs

The character count includes every separator and every copy. A result with 10,000 repetitions of a long paragraph can be several megabytes. Copying that to the clipboard may be slow, and pasting it into another page may be slower still.

Download the text file when the result is large, or reduce the count and run the test in sections. The browser builds the entire string in memory, so the practical limit is lower than the numeric maximum for long inputs.

When a spreadsheet or script is better

A spreadsheet has a repeat function that can fill thousands of cells without building one enormous string. A short script is better when you need numbering, random values, conditional text or output written directly to a file. Use this page for a quick, visible result you can copy or download.

For a one-off label or a small test, the repeater is faster than setting up a formula. For a repeatable data job, keep the logic in the spreadsheet or script so the next run does not depend on manual steps. Keep the formula with the data so the result can be reproduced. Keep both.

10,000. The default is 10.

Yes. Choose the newline separator, or enter a newline in a custom separator.

No. Every copy is identical. Use a spreadsheet or a script if you need numbering.

Yes. Select Custom and type any characters you want between copies.

No. The repeat runs in your browser.

Yes. The Download button saves a plain text file named repeated-text.txt.

The browser has to build a very large string. Reduce the count or shorten the input.

Yes. The input is repeated as written; the separator is added between copies, not inside them.
