What PFRDA recruitment is
PFRDA is the statutory regulator for India's pension sector, and its Officer Grade A (Assistant Manager) recruitment is the entry route most candidates aim at. The application is filed from the Careers section of pfrda.org.in, and the 2026 cycle used a registration engine hosted on the IBPS platform. That form is heavier than most: besides the photograph and signature it asks for a left thumb impression and a hand-written declaration, and it captures a live photograph during the process as well. Four separate images, each validated on its own, is why so many applications stall at the upload stage rather than at the fee or the qualification questions.
The scanning annexure is precise about the physical frames. The photograph is 4.5 cm by 3.5 cm, between 20 and 50 KB, scanned at no less than 200 dpi and saved as JPG or JPEG. The signature is 140 by 60 pixels preferred, between 10 and 20 KB. The thumb and the declaration are the awkward pair, because the same annexure states two different ceilings for each: the thumb is described as 10 to 20 KB in one paragraph and as up to 50 KB in another, and the declaration as 20 to 50 KB in one paragraph and as up to 100 KB in another. The rows stored in this tool follow the roomier reading, so the caveat below matters more here than on most pages.
The official PFRDA site is www.pfrda.org.in. Take the photograph and signature numbers from the notice published there rather than from a third-party summary, since that document is the one the portal was built against.
This page sets out the numbers PFRDA actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.
What the PFRDA form asks you to upload
There are 4 uploads on this application. Missing any single one of them stops the form from being accepted, so it is worth preparing the lot before you start filling it in. They are:
- A photograph at 200 x 230 px, no heavier than 50 KB and no lighter than 20 KB.
- A signature at 140 x 60 px, no heavier than 20 KB and no lighter than 10 KB.
- A left thumb impression at 240 x 240 px, up to 50 KB.
- A hand written declaration at 800 x 400 px, up to 100 KB.
Stored preset versus the notice's own two clauses. The annexure gives the left thumb impression as 10 to 20 KB in one paragraph and allows up to 50 KB in another, and the hand-written declaration as 20 to 50 KB in one paragraph and up to 100 KB in another. The rows here follow the roomier reading. Export the thumb under 20 KB and the declaration inside 20 to 50 KB so each file satisfies both readings.

The PFRDA numbers, and why they matter
PFRDA publishes its sizes in both units, which means the record is offering two ways to express the same kind of requirement. Pick the row that matches how your own advertisement is worded: centimetres when the notification states a physical frame, pixels when it states a resolution. They are alternatives published for different notifications, not a sequence to apply in turn.
Resolution appears more than once in the PFRDA record, at 200 and 96 DPI. That is not a contradiction: the physical frame is the same in both, and the choice is how densely the image is stored. Where an advertisement is silent, the 200 DPI row is the safer one, because a denser image still measures correctly at a lower resolution while the reverse is not true.
There are two limits to satisfy for PFRDA, not one. The upper bound on the photograph is 50 KB and the lower bound is 20 KB; the signature runs 10 KB to 20 KB. Compression that overshoots is easy to fix by lowering quality again, but a file under the floor cannot be fixed by compressing further, it needs a larger source image.
The PFRDA record offers 3 photograph options and 3 signature options: 200 x 230 px; 3.5 x 4.5 cm. These come from different notifications and different recruitment streams rather than from one form, so there is no single right answer to which to use. Take the size from the advertisement you are actually applying under, and if it names a size that is not listed here, enter it by hand in the width and height fields.
Several PFRDA presets are labelled preferred in the stored specification, including 200 x 230 px for the photo and 140 x 60 px for the signature and 240 x 240 px for the document. The label signals what the board expects to see most often across its notifications. It is a preference rather than a restriction, but where the notification leaves the choice open the preferred row is the safer pick.
There are 2 further uploads on this form, covering a left thumb impression, a hand written declaration. They sit alongside the photograph rather than replacing it, and each carries its own ceiling, so a file prepared for the portrait is the wrong starting point for them.
If the PFRDA application refuses your file
- When PFRDA refuses a file, weight is the first thing to check, because 50 KB leaves limited room. Look at the final size on the result card. If it sits above the limit, the source was cropped too loosely: tighten the frame and compress again.
- For the PFRDA signature, keep the crop tight around the ink. The 140 x 60 px frame is small, so every extra millimetre of empty paper is weight you do not have, and the 20 KB ceiling does not leave room for it.
- When two identical files are both refused, the file is usually not the variable. Re-check the notification against the table above, since a corrigendum between your two attempts is the usual explanation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How to position a face inside the crop frame, and how far to push compression before quality suffers, is the same lesson for every exam, so it sits in a single shared guide.
