NECO GCE photos have a hard 8 KB cap

NECO's stored photo variants are unusually small. The cap matters more than the pixel count because a correctly shaped JPEG can still fail when it weighs more than 8 KB. This page crops to one of the three stored shapes and compresses the result, but it cannot promise that your portal will accept the output.

The three stored shapes

The record lists 120×140, 140×140 and 132×151 pixels, all JPEG at 96 DPI. Each has a maximum of 8 KB and no stated minimum. The shapes are close enough that candidates often pick the wrong one, so compare both numbers in your instruction before uploading.

Cropping for a tiny frame

At this size the face fills most of the frame. Centre the head, keep the eyes open and leave only a narrow margin above the hair. A plain light background prevents the compressor from spending bytes on noise. Remove hats, heavy jewellery and strong shadows before you crop.

If the first crop cuts the chin or the forehead, return to the original rather than stretching the compressed copy. Enlarging a tiny file adds blur without adding detail.

Compressing without losing the face

Lower the quality gradually and check the byte count after each pass. Repeatedly saving the same JPEG throws away detail each time, so work from the original photo and produce one final file. A file just under 8 KB is not automatically better than a slightly smaller one if the face has turned blocky.

No signature preset here

The stored NECO record contains photo variants only. If the portal asks for a signature, do not reuse a photo shape. Prepare the signature separately using the dimensions and limit in the current instruction.
