Time Zone Converter | 600 Time Zone, AM-PM and 24hrs format

This time zone converter changes a date and time from one zone to another. Choose the source zone, the destination zone and a 12-hour or 24-hour display. The page shows the converted time, weekday, date and the offset between the zones.

The zone list is generated from the browser's IANA time zone data, so it reflects the zones that the browser supports. Daylight-saving transitions are handled by that data rather than by a fixed table on the page.

The converter is designed for scheduling calls, meetings, travel and deadlines. It is not a calendar, an alarm or a booking system, and it does not warn you about ambiguous times during a daylight-saving change.

What the converter does

The source time is entered in a datetime-local field and interpreted as wall time in the From zone. The page converts that instant to the To zone and displays the target time, weekday and date.

The source zone defaults to the browser's guessed zone. The destination defaults to UTC, or to the first available zone if UTC is not present. You can change either side with the searchable dropdowns.

The output shows seconds even though the input has minute precision, so the seconds are always 00. The 12-hour format includes AM or PM; the 24-hour format uses a leading zero where needed.

Where the zone data comes from

The options are generated at runtime from the browser's Intl.supportedValuesOf('timeZone'). That means the list can differ between browsers and operating systems, and the number of zones can change when the browser updates its time zone database.

Day.js handles the conversion with the utc, timezone and advancedFormat plugins, loaded from a CDN. If the CDN is blocked or the browser does not support the required APIs, the page may not initialise or the zone list may be incomplete.

The page does not store a fixed list of zones, offsets or daylight-saving dates. That is good for keeping up with rule changes, but it also means the result depends on the browser's data rather than a server-side authority.

Daylight saving and ambiguous times

Daylight-saving transitions create gaps and repeats. A clock may jump forward, skipping an hour, or fall back, repeating an hour. The converter uses the browser's rules for the selected zone but does not flag an ambiguous or invalid local time.

If you schedule a meeting around a transition, check the result in both zones and confirm the actual instant with the participants. A time that looks correct in the converter can still be ambiguous in a calendar app.

The displayed offset is the difference between the target and source offsets at the converted instant. It is shown in hours, including a fractional value for zones such as India. The offset can change across a daylight-saving boundary.

Twelve-hour and twenty-four-hour formats

The 12-hour option displays the target time with AM or PM. The 24-hour option displays it with a leading zero where needed and no AM/PM marker. The choice affects presentation only, not the underlying instant.

The source time is also shown with its date, so you can compare the two sides. The weekday and date help when the conversion crosses midnight or lands on a different calendar day.

The page does not offer a custom date format, a UTC offset input or a timestamp field. Use the datetime-local input and the zone dropdowns for the supported workflow.

How to convert a time

Pick the source zone and the destination zone. Enter the date and time in the source zone using the datetime-local field. Choose 12-hour or 24-hour output.

Read the target time, weekday and date. Check the offset line to see how far apart the zones are at that moment. Use the swap action if you want to reverse the direction.

The swap exchanges the dropdowns but leaves the typed time unchanged. That means the absolute instant changes; it is not the same as converting the already-converted result back. If you need the reverse conversion of a specific instant, enter the target time in the new source zone.

Practical scheduling advice

For an international meeting, include the date and the zone name in the invitation, not only a city. A city can have more than one time zone, and a zone abbreviation can be ambiguous.

Check the result for the exact date of the meeting, not for today. Daylight-saving rules can differ by week, especially in spring and autumn. A conversion that is correct this month may be an hour off next month.

When a deadline crosses midnight, confirm which calendar date is intended. The converter shows the target weekday and date, which helps avoid the common mistake of scheduling on the wrong day.

Limitations

The page runs entirely in the browser. It does not connect to a calendar, send invitations, store your preferences or synchronise with another device.

It does not handle ambiguous local times explicitly, warn about skipped hours or validate that a date exists in the selected zone. It also does not provide a fixed list of zones when the browser lacks Intl.supportedValuesOf.

The result is only as current as the browser's time zone database. If your operating system is out of date, a recent rule change may not be reflected. Keep the browser and OS updated for critical scheduling.

Time zone names, abbreviations and offsets

A time zone abbreviation is not always unique. CST can mean Central Standard Time, China Standard Time or Cuba Standard Time depending on the context. The converter avoids most of that ambiguity by using IANA zone identifiers such as America/Chicago or Asia/Shanghai rather than abbreviations.

The offset line tells you the difference at the converted instant. An offset of plus 5.5 hours means the destination is five and a half hours ahead of the source. A negative value means it is behind. The offset can change when either zone enters or leaves daylight saving.

If you are writing a schedule for people in several countries, include the IANA zone or a city with a clear region. An abbreviation alone can cause the meeting to land in the wrong place.

Conversions that cross a date boundary

A time conversion can move the result to the previous or next day. The page shows the target weekday and date so you can catch that shift. A 9 pm call in New York may be the next morning in Tokyo.

When the source and target are far apart, check both the time and the date before sending an invitation. A result that says 08:00 on the following day is not the same as 08:00 on the original date, even though the clock time looks familiar.

A note on browser support

If the zone dropdown is empty, the browser may not support the API used to build it. Update the browser or try a current desktop version. A stale browser can also have an outdated time zone database, so verify critical deadlines against a second source.

It interprets the entered time in the source zone via Day.js and the browser's IANA data, then displays the same instant in the destination zone.

Yes, through the browser's time zone data. It does not explicitly warn about ambiguous or skipped local times around a transition.

The options come from Intl.supportedValuesOf('timeZone'), which depends on the browser and operating system version.

It swaps the From and To dropdowns but leaves the typed time unchanged, so the absolute instant changes. Enter a new time if you need the reverse conversion of a specific instant.

The datetime-local input supports minute precision. The output displays seconds for formatting, but there are no seconds to preserve.

No. It only converts and displays the time. Use a calendar app for invitations and reminders.

No. Everything runs in the browser and is not saved by the page.
