Convert to JPG Image

Convert a mixed folder of PNG, WEBP, BMP, GIF and JPEG images into universally compatible .jpg files in one queue. Our server re-encodes each picture at the quality you choose, can resize everything to one width or a print size, adds an optional DPI value and returns downloads or Base64 data. Transparent areas become solid and animation is not kept.

One target for a messy folder

Real image folders are rarely tidy. A single project can hold phone photos in JPEG, screenshots in PNG, a scanner export in BMP, a few WEBP files saved from websites and an old GIF from an archive. When the destination wants one consistent format, the most universal choice is JPG. Every operating system, browser, office suite, photo printer, social network and online form understands it.

Convert to JPG Image is the all-sources version of our JPEG converters. Instead of being tied to one input type, it accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, JIFF and BMP files in the same queue and writes each of them as a JPEG with the .jpg extension. Conversion happens on our server, where you can also resize, compress and add a DPI value in the same pass.

Why JPG remains the default for photos

JPG uses lossy compression designed around human vision. It keeps the overall structure, colour and brightness of a scene while discarding fine variations the eye barely registers. The result is a compact file with full 24-bit colour, ideal for photographs, product shots, ID pictures and scanned pages. Its quality is adjustable, so you can choose a heavier, cleaner file or a lighter, softer one.

JPG does have known weak spots. It has no transparency, it cannot animate, and very sharp edges such as small text and thin lines can pick up faint artefacts. Those weaknesses decide which of your files should go through this page and which should not.

How each source format behaves

SourceTypical result as JPGWatch out for
JPEG / JPGSame format, re-encodedEach re-save adds a little loss; use a high Quality
PNGMuch smaller for photosTransparent areas become solid
WEBPWider compatibility, often a bit largerTransparency, if present, is lost
BMPHuge size reductionFiles above 10 MB cannot be uploaded
GIFFull-colour container for a still pictureColours lost in the GIF do not return; animation is not kept

Because the converter has no background colour setting, anything transparent in a PNG, WEBP or GIF ends up as whatever colour was stored underneath. Flatten such images onto a background of your choice in an editor first if the look matters.

The controls on this page

At the top sits the Configuration card, preset with Convert Format: JPG. The menu also offers JPEG (same format, four-letter extension), PNG, GIF, WEBP, BMP and others, plus Keep Original if you only want to resize or recompress. The Quality slider runs from 10% to 100% with 75% as the default. Resize Unit offers No Resize, Pixel, Percent, Inch, Centimeter and Millimeter; choosing one opens the Width and Height fields. The DPI box stores a print resolution and is used when you size in physical units.

Batch workflow for mixed formats

  1. Choose your Quality. Around 80% is a strong all-round value for a mixed batch of photos and scans.
  2. Decide on sizing. For a consistent set, pick Pixel and enter one Width, for example 1600; every image keeps its own proportions at that width.
  3. Select or drag all your files into the Select Images box. The picker here accepts any image type, so mixed formats can be chosen together.
  4. Review the cards in the Upload Queue; each shows a format badge such as PNG or BMP so you can spot the odd ones out.
  5. Remove anything that should not become a JPG, such as transparent logos, with the cross on its card.
  6. Press Process Queue. One request converts them all using the same configuration.
  7. Download each finished file with its Download button.

If a batch reports an error, one of the files could not be processed. Remove suspicious cards, such as very large BMPs or animated GIFs, and run the queue again, or use the per-card Process button to find the culprit.

Adding pictures from links

Instead of downloading images first, press From URL, paste one link per line into Image URLs, and press Process to place them in the queue. The server fetches them directly during conversion. These results are returned without the original name, so give them sensible names after downloading.

Choosing JPG versus JPEG on this page

Both options produce identical JPEG data. The only difference is the extension on the downloaded file: .jpg or .jpeg. Pick whichever one a strict upload form demands. If no one specifies, .jpg is the more common spelling.

Practical advice

  • Sort before you convert: photos and scans to JPG, logos and icons with transparency to PNG.
  • Do not convert files that are already JPG unless you need resizing, a lower weight or a DPI value; each re-encode loses a little.
  • Check results with text closely by clicking the output thumbnail for a larger preview.
  • Note the arrow on the size badge. A down arrow confirms the JPG is lighter than the source; an up arrow suggests a lower Quality or smaller dimensions.

What to avoid

  • Converting animated GIFs; a JPG cannot hold animation.
  • Expecting transparency to survive in any form.
  • Using decimal values like 2.5 in Width, Height or DPI; the server requires whole numbers.
  • Selecting SVG as an output; the tool does not trace raster images into vectors.

Limits

  • 10 MB maximum per uploaded file.
  • Percent and physical units need both Width and Height; Pixel works with one.
  • One configuration per queue run; a single failing file makes the batch report an error.
  • Output names combine a random prefix with your original name.
  • EXIF and similar metadata are stripped by default, and orientation is applied so pictures come out upright.
  • No crop, rotate, flip or zoom controls are offered.

How files are handled

This tool does not convert inside your browser. Files are uploaded to our server and processed by a server-side image library. The JPG is returned as Base64 in the response, which the page turns into the preview and the download link, and the server deletes its temporary copy afterwards.

Prefer a converter for one specific source? Try PNG to JPEG or BMP to JPEG.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Short answers for the questions users ask before trusting the result.

JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, JIFF and BMP files are accepted, up to 10 MB each, and you can mix them in one queue.

None in the image data. Both write the same JPEG format; JPG gives the file a .jpg extension and JPEG gives it .jpeg. Pick the one your destination asks for.

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become solid. There is no background colour setting, so flatten the image onto your chosen background first if appearance matters.

Yes. Choose Pixel as the Resize Unit and enter only a Width. Each image is scaled to that width and its height is calculated to keep its proportions.

If any single file cannot be processed, the whole queue run reports an error. Remove large or unusual files such as animated GIFs, or process cards one at a time to find the problem file.

Around 80% is a good starting point for photos and scans. Use 90% or more if the images contain small text, or lower values if you need very small files.

The images are processed on our server and returned to your browser as Base64. The server deletes its temporary copies once the response has been created.
