What the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board does
The Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board conducts examinations for subordinate posts in the Government of NCT of Delhi, and it also administers the National Capital Territory teaching and nursing entry examinations that candidates in Delhi use to enter those programmes. Its recruitment notices cover ministerial, teaching, and field level posts across the Delhi administration.
This is one of the simpler records on the site: a single photograph size and a single signature size, with no resolution variants and no third upload. What distinguishes it is the file weight. The photograph allowance runs 25 to 100 KB and the signature 10 to 50 KB, so both ends of the range have to be respected, and a signature cropped loosely enough to fall under 10 KB is as much a risk as one that is too heavy.
Notices for DSSSB are published at dsssb.delhi.gov.in. Read the upload instructions from the notice on that site, not from a coaching summary or an older application, because the portal validates against the specification that was current when the form was built.
This page sets out the numbers DSSSB actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.
What the DSSSB form asks you to upload
Two files go into this form. They are:
- A photograph at 3.5 x 4.5 cm, no heavier than 100 KB and no lighter than 25 KB.
- A signature at 3.5 x 1.5 cm, no heavier than 50 KB and no lighter than 10 KB.
| Item | Size | Unit | Format | Max file size | Min | DPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 3.5 x 4.5 | cm | JPEG | 100 KB | 25 KB | 96 |
| Signature | 3.5 x 1.5 | cm | JPEG | 50 KB | 10 KB | 96 |
The DSSSB numbers, and why they matter
Notice that the DSSSB figures are measurements in centimetres, not pixels. At 96 DPI a 3.5 by 4.5 centimetre frame is a specific pixel count, and the tool derives it rather than guessing. A photo that is the right number of pixels but the wrong DPI reads as the wrong size to a portal that checks both.
There are two limits to satisfy for DSSSB, not one. The upper bound on the photograph is 100 KB and the lower bound is 25 KB; the signature runs 10 KB to 50 KB. Compression that overshoots is easy to fix by lowering quality again, but a file under the floor cannot be fixed by compressing further, it needs a larger source image.
If the DSSSB application refuses your file
- A DSSSB rejection usually comes down to one of two things. Either the file is over 100 KB because the crop left too much empty background, or the photo itself has a non plain background, a tilt, or a filter. Fix the weight first since it is measurable, then the photograph.
- For the DSSSB signature, keep the crop tight around the ink. The 3.5 x 1.5 cm frame is small, so every extra millimetre of empty paper is weight you do not have, and the 50 KB ceiling does not leave room for it.
- If the same file is refused twice with identical settings, stop retrying and re-read the notification. Requirements do get revised by corrigendum, and the numbers stored in this tool reflect the specification as recorded.

How to position a face inside the crop frame, and how far to push compression before quality suffers, is the same lesson for every exam, so it sits in a single shared guide. Read the shared photo and signature guide.
