NID DAT photo and signature

NID DAT is the design aptitude test used for admission to the National Institute of Design. The application asks for a photo and signature, and the stored NID DAT record sets a minimum byte size as well as a maximum.

This page applies the stored shapes and compresses each file toward the 50–200 KB window. It does not submit the application.

Stored NID DAT values

UploadShapeByte windowFormatDPI
Photo3.5×4.5 cm50–200 KBJPEG200
Signature3.5×1.5 cm50–200 KBJPEG200

These are stored values. The current NID DAT instructions are the authority; confirm the shape and limits before uploading. The presets have not been changed.

Why the minimum matters

Many portals only cap the maximum size. NID DAT also stores a 50 KB minimum, so an overly compressed signature can fall below the floor. If the file is too small, raise the quality slightly or start from a cleaner scan. Do not pad the file with blank space.

Photo and signature workflow

Use a recent colour photo on a plain background, with the face centred and eyes open. For the signature, sign on white paper with dark ink and crop around the strokes. Check both the dimensions and the byte count after download.

Why a small file can fail

A heavily compressed signature can fall below the stored 50 KB minimum even when it looks acceptable on screen. Raise the quality slightly or start from a cleaner scan. Do not pad the file with blank space to reach the floor.

Keep both versions

Save the processed photo and signature with the originals. If one upload is rejected, replace only that file and keep the other unchanged.
