NIFT entrance photo and signature
NIFT conducts design entrance examinations for its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The application photo and signature must be clear enough for the admit card and small enough for the portal.
This page applies the stored NIFT shapes and byte windows. It does not submit the application or verify your portfolio.
Stored NIFT values
| Upload | Shape | Byte window | Format | DPI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Photo | 3.5×4.5 cm | 10–200 KB | JPEG | 200 |
| Signature | 3.5×1.5 cm | 10–100 KB | JPEG | 200 |
These are stored values. The current NIFT admission instructions are the authority; confirm the shape and limits before uploading. The presets have not been changed.
Photo advice
Use a recent colour photo with a plain light background. Face the camera, keep your eyes open and avoid hats, filters and heavy shadows. A simple, neat photo is easier to verify than an artistic crop. Keep the head and shoulders inside the frame without cutting the forehead or chin.
Signature advice
Sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, photograph it straight on and crop around the strokes. The signature window is wider than the photo window, but a clean file still matters. Check the downloaded dimensions and byte count.

Common NIFT upload mistakes
A photo that is too dark, a signature with a shadow or a file saved as PNG with a .jpg name can fail even when the dimensions look right. Check the byte count after download and inspect the image at full size.
This is not a portfolio
The entrance form asks for an identity photo, not a creative portfolio image. Use a clear passport-style crop. Keep your portfolio for the stage where the admission process asks for it.
Open the download before uploading
Check that the JPEG opens normally and that the face and signature are not blurred. A file can be within the byte window and still be unusable if the crop is wrong.
