authorize.net Fee Calculator
This calculator estimates Authorize.Net costs for three stored plans: an all-in-one merchant solution, gateway-only, and gateway plus eCheck. Enter the transaction amount and monthly volume to see the per-transaction fee, monthly gateway cost, net amount and a comparison with a stored PayPal model.
The rates are estimates built into the page, not a live quote from Authorize.Net. Your actual pricing can depend on your merchant provider, volume, contract, card type and additional services.
Use the breakdown to compare plan structures and understand which part of the cost is fixed versus percentage-based, then confirm the current pricing with Authorize.Net or your reseller.

Why Authorize.Net is the Lower-Fee Option (Updated on 16 October, 2026)
Here’s why Authorize.Net is the smarter choice for cost-conscious businesses:
- Significantly lower transaction rates: Every time you make a sale, you keep more money with Authorize.Net. While PayPal charges 2.99% + $0.49 for standard card payments and 3.49% + $0.49 for PayPal Checkout, Authorize.Net stays at 2.9% + $0.30. On a $100 sale via PayPal Checkout, you pay roughly $3.98 in fees. On Authorize.Net, you pay only $3.20.
- Flexibility to lower rates further (Gateway Only): The true power of Authorize.Net lies in its "Gateway Only" option. Unlike flat-rate providers, Authorize.Net allows you to connect to any merchant account provider. This enables you to negotiate Interchange-Plus pricing, which can secure effective rates significantly lower than retail flat rates.
- Lower fixed fees: Authorize.Net charges a fixed fee of $0.30 per transaction (or as low as $0.10 on gateway-only plans), whereas PayPal charges $0.49. For high-volume merchants or those with smaller ticket sizes, these cents add up to thousands of dollars in annual savings.
- Standardized eCheck Pricing: Accept bank transfers for just 0.75% per transaction, providing a low-cost alternative to credit cards for B2B or high-ticket service businesses.
- The monthly fee pays for itself: Because transaction fees are lower, the savings cover the $25 monthly fee quickly. Once you process roughly $3,000 in monthly sales, Authorize.Net becomes the mathematically cheaper option compared to "free" monthly accounts with higher transaction rates.
Additional Authorize.Net Fee Considerations
When calculating your total cost of ownership, consider the value-added services included in your subscription. Authorize.Net provides the Customer Information Manager (CIM) to securely store payment details, reducing cart abandonment through a frictionless checkout. You also receive 24/7 live support from real humans—not bots—ensuring that any technical issues are resolved immediately without lost revenue. For businesses based in the U.S., adding eCheck is a seamless way to diversify payment methods and further reduce processing overhead.

Reading the result and common confusions
The headline transaction fee is the variable cost for one payment. The monthly total adds the gateway fee and multiplies the transaction fee by the number of transactions. The net figure is the sale amount minus the transaction fee, not minus the monthly fee.
A single-transaction view still includes the monthly gateway charge in the total shown for the plan. That can make a one-off comparison look more expensive than the per-payment cost alone. Read the breakdown rows to separate the monthly fee from the transaction fee.
The batch fee is counted per transaction in this stored model, not per daily batch. A real processor may charge a batch fee once per settlement. Treat the calculator's batch line as a simplifying assumption and check your statement.
Plan structures in the stored model
The all-in-one plan uses a 25 monthly gateway fee, a 2.9 percent transaction rate and a 0.30 fixed fee. The gateway-only plan uses the same monthly fee plus 0.10 per transaction and 0.10 per batch. The gateway-plus-eCheck plan keeps the card rates and adds a 0.75 percent eCheck rate with no fixed eCheck fee.
The comparison model uses a stored PayPal standard rate of 2.99 percent plus 0.49, and a checkout rate of 3.49 percent plus 0.49. The savings badge compares the selected Authorize.Net transaction fee with the standard PayPal figure.
The breakeven note estimates how many transactions are needed for the monthly savings to cover the 25 gateway fee. It is shown only below 100,000 transactions, where the comparison is most useful.
How to compare plans
Enter the average sale amount and the number of transactions per month. Run each plan with the same inputs. Compare the monthly total, not only the headline percentage, because the fixed gateway fee matters more at low volume.
For a low-volume seller, a plan with a higher percentage but no monthly fee may be cheaper. For a high-volume business, a lower percentage can outweigh the fixed cost. The calculator does not model every plan in the market; it compares the stored Authorize.Net structures and a stored PayPal reference.
If you process eChecks, switch to the gateway-plus-eCheck plan and choose the payment type. The card and eCheck formulas are different, so do not compare an eCheck result with a card-only plan without checking the payment type.
Why the net figure can surprise you
The net figure subtracts the transaction fee from the sale amount. It does not subtract the monthly gateway fee. A 100 sale on the all-in-one plan shows a net near 96.80 before the monthly charge, even though the headline single-transaction total includes the 25 monthly fee.
That separation is useful for per-sale pricing but easy to misread. If you want a true monthly profit estimate, subtract the monthly total from the month's revenue, not the per-sale net from a single sale.
The calculator also does not include refunds, chargebacks, PCI compliance, fraud tools, invoicing, recurring billing or hardware. Those can add fixed or variable costs that are outside the stored model.
A note on contract pricing
The calculator's plan structure is a simplified model. A real merchant agreement can include a monthly minimum, a statement fee, a PCI compliance charge, a gateway fee, a batch fee and a per-transaction rate that varies by card type. It can also bundle the gateway cost into a higher percentage.
If you have a quote, enter its percentage and fixed fee into the closest plan and compare the result with the stored default. Do not assume that a lower headline percentage is cheaper without accounting for the monthly and per-batch charges.
