Excel to PDF Converter
Excel to PDF Converter turns a spreadsheet sheet into a downloadable PDF. Upload an .xlsx, .xls or .csv file, preview the table, choose the paper and orientation, and generate a document you can share without sending the workbook itself.
The browser parses the spreadsheet and builds an HTML table; the server renders that table into a PDF. The result is a fixed-layout document, so the recipient does not need Excel or a compatible viewer.
The converter works on one sheet at a time and shows up to 300 rows and 40 columns. Check the preview before generating, because the PDF inherits the simplified table rather than the original workbook formatting.

What the converter does
The page accepts .xlsx, .xls and .csv files. It reads the workbook with SheetJS, lists the sheets, and renders the selected sheet as a preview table. You can mark the first row as a header, choose a paper size and layout, adjust the scale, and decide whether to print the page background.
When you click Generate PDF, the browser sends the table HTML to the server's HTML-to-PDF endpoint. The server sanitises the markup, renders it, and returns a link to a temporary PDF. The download button then saves the file with a name based on the original workbook and sheet.
Because the PDF is generated from HTML, it is a clean table document rather than a pixel-perfect copy of Excel. Fonts, column widths and page breaks may differ from what you see in the spreadsheet.
How to convert a sheet
- Upload an .xlsx, .xls or .csv file.
- Select the sheet you want to export.
- Choose the paper size: A4, Letter, Legal or A3.
- Choose landscape or portrait orientation.
- Set the scale between 0.5 and 2 if the table needs to fit differently.
- Leave “First row is header” on when the first row contains column names, and choose whether to print the background.
- Click Generate PDF, wait for the server, then click Download PDF.
The preview is your best check before generating. Look for clipped columns, missing header labels and rows that are much wider than the page. A table that looks fine on screen can still split awkwardly in print.
The 300-row and 40-column limit
Only the first 300 rows and 40 columns of the selected sheet are sent to the PDF renderer. The header row counts toward the row limit. If the sheet is larger, the preview warns you and the PDF omits the extra data.
For a long report, split the sheet into logical sections and generate several PDFs, or use a reporting tool that paginates the full dataset. For a wide sheet, reduce the number of columns or switch to landscape before generating.
Empty trailing rows collapse, so the actual PDF may be shorter than the sheet's used range. Check the preview count rather than assuming every formatted row will appear.
Paper size, layout and scale
Paper size and orientation have the biggest effect on whether columns fit. Landscape gives you more horizontal room; A3 or Legal gives you a larger canvas than A4 or Letter. Scale can shrink the table further, but very small text becomes hard to read on paper.
The scale control accepts values from 0.5 to 2 in small steps. A value below 1 reduces the rendered size; a value above 1 enlarges it. The server may not apply every visual switch exactly as the preview suggests, so download the PDF and inspect it before sharing.
Print-background is a browser-style option. If the table relies on background colours to separate sections, check whether they survive in the PDF. If they do not, add borders or spacing to the source table instead of relying on colour alone.
What the PDF does not preserve
The PDF contains the table values, not the workbook's formulas, charts, comments, conditional formatting or multiple sheets. Dates and numbers may be formatted differently from Excel. A currency column may lose its symbol, and a long identifier may wrap.
Merged cells are simplified. If the original uses merged headers, the HTML table may repeat a label or leave a gap. Edit the source sheet or the preview expectations before generating if the layout depends on merges.
The PDF is a snapshot. If the spreadsheet changes later, the PDF does not update. Regenerate it after any edit.
Privacy and limitations
The browser reads the workbook locally, but the generated table HTML is sent to the server for PDF rendering. Do not upload sensitive data unless you are comfortable with that processing. The resulting PDF is stored in a temporary upload area and is intended for immediate download.
The converter does not edit the workbook, recalculate formulas or protect the PDF with a password. It also does not guarantee a specific pagination or print margin. Check the downloaded file on the device and paper size you plan to use.
If the PDF is blank, the selected sheet may have no data in the first 300 by 40 window, or the HTML may have failed to render. If columns are cut off, reduce the column count, switch to landscape or lower the scale and try again.
Pagination and print layout
The PDF renderer flows the table onto pages automatically. It does not offer manual page breaks, repeating header rows or a “fit to one page wide” guarantee. If a table is too wide, columns may be clipped or pushed to a second page. Check the downloaded PDF rather than assuming the on-screen preview matches the print result.
For a long table, a repeated header is important for readability. The generated HTML has a header row, but whether it repeats on every printed page depends on the renderer and the page-break behaviour. If the header does not repeat, split the sheet into smaller sections with a heading before each one, or use a report tool that supports repeating headers.
Page margins, footers and page numbers are not part of the controls. If the document needs an official footer, add it after conversion with a PDF editor or generate the PDF from a template that includes those elements.
Reducing a wide sheet
Before converting, hide or remove columns that are not needed in the PDF. A 40-column sheet on A4 landscape will be cramped even at a small scale. Keep the identifier, the key values and the date, and move supporting detail to an appendix or a second document.
Shorten long header labels and wrap them in the source if possible. A header that is one long unbroken word can force a column wider than the page. Use abbreviations only if the audience understands them, and add a legend below the table if necessary.
If the sheet has many empty columns, delete them before uploading. The converter counts columns in the used range, so empty formatting can consume part of the 40-column window and push real data out of view.
Keep the source workbook so you can regenerate the PDF when the data changes.
