Domain Expiry Checker

What the domain expiry checker does

This page looks up registration data for a domain and displays the creation date, last update, expiry date, registrar, nameservers, status codes and raw WHOIS text. It starts with newisty.com prefilled, but you can enter another domain, a URL or an IP address. The lookup runs on the server and is cached for about an hour. The page is a WHOIS reader focused on expiry, not a registrar account and not a renewal service.

How to use it

Enter a domain such as example.com, paste a URL, or provide an IP address. Press the lookup button. The page extracts the root domain on the client and sends it to the server. Results appear in summary cards and a raw WHOIS section. If the lookup succeeds but a field is missing, the registry may not publish it. If the page times out or returns an error, try again later; some WHOIS servers are slow or rate-limited.

Reading the expiry date

The expiry date is the date the current registration is scheduled to end, according to the registry or registrar response. It is not a guarantee that the domain will become available on that day. A registrar may allow a grace period, a redemption period or a pending-delete period after expiry. The domain can also be renewed before the date, so treat the value as a reference point and confirm with the registrar before making plans.

Created, updated and domain age

The creation date is the first registration date recorded by the registry, not necessarily the date the current owner acquired the domain. The updated date reflects the last change in the registry record, which may be a nameserver update, a status change or a transfer. Domain age is calculated from the creation date. A long age can suggest history, but it does not prove reputation, traffic or trustworthiness.

Registrar and IANA information

The registrar field identifies the company that manages the registration, when the registry publishes it. The IANA identifier is a number used in registry data. Abuse contact details may be present for the registrar or the registry. These fields help you find the right party for a complaint or a transfer question, but the page does not contact them for you and does not verify that the contact details are current.

Status codes

Domain status codes describe registry-level conditions. Common values include clientTransferProhibited, clientDeleteProhibited, clientUpdateProhibited, serverTransferProhibited and pendingDelete. A lock can be a normal protection against unauthorized transfers. A pending-delete status suggests the domain is in a deletion process. Status codes are not a security score, and their meaning can vary slightly by registry and registrar.

Nameservers and DNSSEC

The nameserver list shows which DNS servers are authoritative for the domain. DNSSEC indicates whether the registry has delegation signer data. A domain can have nameservers but still fail to resolve if the zone is misconfigured. This page reads registration data; it does not query the live DNS records or test whether the website loads. Use a separate DNS lookup for that.

WHOIS, RDAP and redaction

WHOIS output varies by top-level domain. Some registries publish detailed contacts, while others redact personal data for privacy. Newer systems may use RDAP, which returns structured data rather than free text. The page may fall back between a local WHOIS client and a PHP library, so the raw output can look different from one lookup to another. Missing contact details usually mean redaction, not a failed lookup.

Cache and freshness

Results are cached for about an hour to reduce load on WHOIS servers. A recent renewal or nameserver change may not appear immediately. If the page shows an old date, wait for the cache to expire or check with the registrar. The page is not a monitoring service and will not notify you when a domain is about to expire. Set a calendar reminder or use a registrar feature for that.

Limitations and unsupported cases

Some country-code top-level domains do not publish expiry dates or restrict WHOIS access. An IP address lookup may return network registration data rather than a domain record. A URL with a path is reduced to its root domain. The page has a browser timeout of about 30 seconds; a slow registry can produce an error. The summary cards are not a separate expiry API; the page is effectively a full WHOIS lookup with a domain-age summary.

Privacy and acceptable use

The page queries public registration data. It does not log you in to a registrar or access private account information. WHOIS data may contain personal or organizational contact details, so use it for legitimate research and respect applicable privacy rules. Do not use the page to scrape large numbers of domains or to harass contacts. The server makes the request, so the registry sees Newisty rather than your browser.

Common problems

If the lookup returns nothing, the domain may not exist, the registry may be unavailable or the extension may not support the query. If the expiry date is blank, the registry may redact it. If the result is stale, the cache may still be active. If a URL fails, try the root domain without a path. If an IP returns network data, that is expected; use a domain name for registration details.

When to use it

Use it to check who manages a domain, when it was registered, when it expires, which nameservers it uses and whether transfer locks are present. It is useful before buying a domain, investigating a brand, preparing a transfer or reviewing a portfolio. For a renewal decision, confirm the date and price in the registrar account. For legal or trademark work, use the official registry record and current policy.

What not to do

Do not treat the expiry date as a guarantee of availability. Do not assume missing contact data means the domain is unowned. Do not use the page as an expiry monitor. Do not rely on one WHOIS result for a legal decision. Do not scrape personal contact data. Do not confuse registration data with live DNS or website availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Các câu trả lời ngắn gọn cho những thắc mắc mà người dùng thường đặt ra trước khi tin tưởng vào kết quả.

No. It only reads public registration data. Renewal, transfer and reservation happen through a registrar. The page does not connect to your account or change the domain.

Some registries redact or do not publish expiry data, and some country-code domains have restricted WHOIS access. A failed or partial lookup can also leave the field blank. Check the official registry record.

Not necessarily. A grace period, redemption period or pending-delete period can follow expiry, and the owner may renew before the date. Confirm with the registrar before assuming availability.

Results are cached for about an hour, so a recent renewal or nameserver change may not appear immediately. The page is not a real-time monitor. Wait for the cache to expire or check the registrar.

Yes, but an IP lookup usually returns network registration data, not a domain registration. Use a domain name if you want creation, expiry and registrar fields.

WHOIS formats vary by registry and by the client or library used. Some responses are free text, some are redacted and some come from RDAP. The raw section shows what the lookup returned.

No. It reads registration data and nameservers. It does not test the website, query the zone or verify that DNS resolves. Use a separate DNS or HTTP check for availability.
