What the Joint Entrance Examination Council does
The Joint Entrance Examination Council of Uttar Pradesh conducts the state level entrance examinations for polytechnic and diploma admissions, and it also runs the Polytechnic Admission Tests used for admission to polytechnic colleges in other states. That is why one JEECUP application covers several separate examinations: the Uttar Pradesh Polytechnic Entrance Test, the Assam PAT, the Madhya Pradesh PAT, the Himachal Pradesh PAT, the Chhattisgarh PAT, and the general Polytechnic stream.
The single most important thing about this record is that the file size ceiling is not the same across all of them. The Uttar Pradesh test allows up to 200 KB, the Assam PAT up to 100 KB, the Madhya Pradesh PAT up to 80 KB, the Chhattisgarh PAT up to 60 KB and the general Polytechnic stream only 50 KB. A photograph that satisfies the Uttar Pradesh figure will be refused under the Chhattisgarh or Polytechnic streams, so the ceiling has to be read from the specific test you are registering for. The signature ceilings differ too, from 30 KB down to 40 KB depending on the stream, and some streams set no lower bound at all.
The JEECUP notice itself is on jeecup.ac.in. Check the upload section of that document before generating files, since these requirements are revised between intakes and the values stored in this tool follow the recorded specification.
This page sets out the numbers JEECUP actually asks for. It is not a general guide to cropping or to the tool interface, because those instructions do not change from one exam to the next and they are written up separately.
What the JEECUP form asks you to upload
There are two separate uploads to prepare. They are:
- A photograph at 3.5 x 4.5 cm, no heavier than 200 KB and no lighter than 50 KB.
- A signature at 3.5 x 1.5 cm, no heavier than 30 KB.

The JEECUP numbers, and why they matter
JEECUP publishes its sizes in both units, which means the record is offering two ways to express the same kind of requirement. Pick the row that matches how your own advertisement is worded: centimetres when the notification states a physical frame, pixels when it states a resolution. They are alternatives published for different notifications, not a sequence to apply in turn.
The JEECUP table lists DPI values of 200 and 96 against what is otherwise the same frame. Both entries describe identical dimensions, so the decision is resolution quality rather than size. Take the higher value unless the notification names the lower one.
Worth knowing that JEECUP works in both directions. The photograph must be no larger than 200 KB and no smaller than 50 KB, and the signature no larger than 30 KB with as its floor. Overshooting the ceiling is the usual mistake; undershooting the floor is the one that surprises people who compress hard.
The JEECUP record offers 13 photograph options and 13 signature options: 3.5 x 4.5 cm; 200 x 230 px. These come from different notifications and different recruitment streams rather than from one form, so there is no single right answer to which to use. Take the size from the advertisement you are actually applying under, and if it names a size that is not listed here, enter it by hand in the width and height fields.
Several JEECUP presets are labelled preferred in the stored specification, including 200 x 230 px for the photo and 140 x 60 px for the signature. The label signals what the board expects to see most often across its notifications. It is a preference rather than a restriction, but where the notification leaves the choice open the preferred row is the safer pick.
If the JEECUP application refuses your file
- If JEECUP refuses a file, start with the weight on the result card against the 200 KB, then look at the picture. At this ceiling, an uncropped phone photo straight off the camera will not fit, so crop before you compress rather than after.
- The signature is judged on its own 3.5 x 1.5 cm box and is not rescued by a correct photograph. If it is rejected, the usual cause is loose cropping: a signature scanned with a wide white margin carries more weight than the 30 KB allowance and fails even though the writing itself looks right.
- Repeating an identical submission is the most common wasted step here. Compare the values above against the live notification, and if the notification has moved, change one value at a time rather than re-running the whole form.
