GIF to JPEG Image Converter

Turn still GIF images into standard JPEG files that any form, printer or app accepts. The server re-encodes each GIF at your chosen quality, can resize it and add a DPI value, and returns a .jpeg you can download or copy as Base64. JPEG keeps one still frame only and has no transparency, so use still GIFs and check the preview.

About GIF files and why you might leave them behind

GIF dates from 1987 and still turns up in surprising places: old website archives, clip art collections, scanned images from early office software, reaction images, forum signatures and exports from legacy design tools. Its strengths are tiny palettes, crisp flat colour and simple frame-by-frame animation. Its weaknesses are just as clear. A single frame can contain no more than 256 distinct colours, transparency is all-or-nothing for each pixel, and many modern forms, print services and photo apps simply do not accept it.

The GIF to JPEG Image Converter takes a still GIF and saves it as a standard JPEG, the format that practically every device, uploader and printer understands. You get a .jpeg file built on our server, optionally resized and tagged with a DPI value.

Set your expectations: three facts about this conversion

1. Colours do not come back

If a photograph was once squeezed into a GIF, its colours were reduced to a palette of at most 256. Saving it as JPEG does not recover the lost shades. Banding and dither patterns that exist in the GIF will be present in the JPEG as well. The benefit is compatibility, not restoration.

2. Animation cannot be carried over

A JPEG stores exactly one still picture. Animated GIFs are not a good input for this page: the conversion of a multi-frame file may fail with an error or give you a result you did not want. If you need one particular frame, export that frame as a still GIF or PNG in an editor and convert it here. If you want to keep the movement, leave the file as GIF or look at an animated WEBP workflow instead.

3. Transparent pixels turn solid

GIF supports one transparent colour; JPEG supports none. Wherever your GIF was see-through, the JPEG will have solid pixels. The converter does not offer a background colour choice, so the colour that appears depends on what was stored underneath the transparent index. Check the preview, and flatten the GIF onto your preferred background first if needed.

When converting GIF to JPEG makes sense

  • An application form, marketplace listing or printing service accepts JPEG only.
  • You have an old scanned photo or document stored as GIF and want it in a mainstream format.
  • You want to resize a still GIF and set a print resolution at the same time.
  • Photo-like GIFs are oddly heavy; JPEG can sometimes store them more compactly.

It makes less sense for simple logos and icons with large flat areas. Those compress very well as GIF or PNG and may grow and pick up edge artefacts as JPEG. For that kind of artwork, Convert to PNG is usually the better modern home.

Using the converter

The settings sit in the Configuration panel; click its header to collapse or expand it. On this page Convert Format starts at JPEG.

  1. Pick a Quality value. The slider goes from 10% to 100% and opens at 75%. Because a GIF has hard colour edges, JPEG artefacts can be more noticeable than on a camera photo; 85% or higher is a safe start for graphics, 70% to 80% for photo-like GIFs.
  2. Resize if needed. Old GIFs are often small, around 300 or 400 pixels wide. Enlarging them with Percent or Pixel is possible, but enlargement only stretches existing pixels, so a 200% GIF will look soft. Reducing size is always safe.
  3. Add the DPI. If the JPEG is headed to print, type the resolution the printer asked for.
  4. Upload. Drag your GIF files onto the Select Images box, or press Select File. The file dialog on this page is set to GIF images.
  5. Process. Use the Process button on one card, or Process Queue to run the whole queue.
  6. Review and save. The Output panel shows weight, dimensions, optional DPI and the JPEG badge. Click the thumbnail for a larger look, then press Download.

Picking images from the web

Many GIFs live only on old web pages. Press From URL, paste one direct image address per line, and press Process in that box. The images join the queue as cards, and the server downloads them itself when you process. Downloads that came from URLs arrive without the original file name, so rename them on your device.

Good practice

  • Preview each GIF first and make sure it is a single still frame.
  • Use higher Quality for GIFs with text or hard outlines.
  • Keep the original GIF if it is animated or has transparency you may want later.
  • Compare the before and after weights on the card; if the JPEG is bigger and you do not need JPEG specifically, the GIF may already be the most efficient format.

Avoid these

  • Uploading animated GIFs and expecting a usable animated or multi-frame result.
  • Using JPEG for small flat icons that look perfect as GIF or PNG.
  • Enlarging tiny GIFs a lot and expecting sharp output.
  • Choosing SVG in the format menu in the hope of getting a vector; no tracing is done.

Limitations

  • Each upload may be up to 10 MB. Accepted inputs: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WEBP, JIFF and BMP.
  • Width, Height and DPI must be whole numbers.
  • Percent, Inch, Centimeter and Millimeter need both Width and Height. With Pixel, one value is enough.
  • All files in one queue run share one configuration, and a single failing file makes the batch report an error.
  • Metadata is removed from the output by default.
  • No crop, rotate, flip or zoom tools are provided on this page.

Where the work happens

Conversion runs on our server rather than in your browser. The GIF is uploaded, decoded and encoded as JPEG by a server-side image library. The finished JPEG is returned to the page as Base64 and the server's temporary copy is deleted. The Copy Base64 button gives you that data URL directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

الأسئلة الشائعة

إجابات موجزة على الأسئلة التي يطرحها المستخدمون قبل الوثوق بالنتيجة.

A JPEG holds only one still image, so animation cannot be kept. Multi-frame GIFs may fail or give an unexpected result here. Export the frame you need as a still image first, then convert it.

No. A GIF is limited to 256 colours, and converting to JPEG cannot add the missing shades back. The JPEG will look about the same, possibly with slight compression artefacts.

JPEG has no transparency, so those pixels become solid. There is no background colour option, so the colour depends on the GIF's stored data. Flatten the image onto a background first if you need control.

Simple graphics with flat colours compress very efficiently as GIF. JPEG is built for photos, so for logos and icons it can produce a heavier file. Keep such images as GIF or PNG.

The upload box on this page is set to GIF images, so the file picker lists your GIF files. You can also drag a GIF from a folder onto the upload box.

Yes, with Pixel or Percent sizing, but enlarging only stretches the existing pixels. The result will be bigger but softer, not more detailed.

The GIF is processed on our server and the JPEG is sent back as Base64. The server deletes its temporary copy once the response is built.
