BitBox adds Lightning payments to its mobile app
Bitcoin hardware wallet maker BitBox has added Lightning support to its mobile app, the company announced Tuesday. Lightning is a payment network built on top of Bitcoin that is designed for fast, low-cost transactions.
Owners of any BitBox hardware wallet can now create a Lightning hot wallet — a wallet connected to the internet for everyday spending — inside the BitBoxApp. They can fund it directly from their on-chain Bitcoin balance and pay Lightning invoices without switching between apps, wallets, or third-party services.
The feature does not require a new recovery phrase, the list of words used to restore a wallet. The Lightning wallet is derived from the BitBox backup the user already has, so there are no extra words to write down, and the two wallets stay distinct.

Breez, the company behind the SDK, confirmed the launch in a post on X: “Savings on the BitBox, spending on your phone, one backup for both wallets. Powered by Breez.”
In August, Breez also debuted Glow, an app that lets developers see what is working under the hood of the Lightning wallet so they can build their own products.
