Bitcoin ETFs absorb $1.7B as price rises above average holder cost

Major inflows push Bitcoin above investor entry costs

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded more than $1.7 billion in net inflows over a two-day period in late September 2026. This surge in investment coincided with Bitcoin’s price rising above the estimated average cost basis for ETF holders. The influx of capital brought total net assets across US spot Bitcoin ETFs to approximately $111 billion on Tuesday. This figure marks a 56% increase from the year’s low of roughly $71 billion in late June. However, it remains about 13% below the January 14 peak of $128 billion.

Key investment numbers

  • Total US spot Bitcoin ETF net assets reached $111 billion.
  • Net inflows totaled over $1.7 billion across Tuesday and Monday.
  • BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led with $350 million in daily inflows.
  • Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) recorded $257 million.
  • Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust added $99 million.

Investors return to profitability

Bloomberg Intelligence ETF analyst James Seyffart noted that the average Bitcoin ETF holder was back in profit for the first time since January. This status change occurred after Bitcoin moved above Seyffart’s estimated ETF cost basis of $81,722 per coin. As of Tuesday, Bitcoin was trading around $86,000. The asset briefly exceeded $87,000 on Wednesday before settling at $86,467. This price point represents a 1.2% increase over 24 hours and a 13.8% gain over the previous week, according to CoinGecko data.
